I checked the pros/cons table but found it hard to follow The main trade-off here is flexibility. If you have two separate inputs (e.g. for sample / reference), it is not possible to do multi-sample / multi-reference at the same time. The type checker will not allow you to call a process with two channels. You have to combine them into a single channel, which means the process must have one big record input So if you want every module to have the possibility of doing multi x multi combinations... it has to be one big record input
