I do think it serves no real coding purpose here, and for me planning things can definitely exist on GitHub via issues only

This makes more sense. We can edit Issues to state which PR they are going into. Or make 1 Issue per PR and then open sub-issues for it
GItHub is supposed to be an excellent project leading platform 😛
m
and also, much easier to comment/collaborate
I do think having such a document for a ROADMAP is useful, but for me it should be local only, and not commited
e
Agreed 😄

Seems very much like something for individual pipelines to decide upon for themselves?

Yes, agreed. Don't include a file in the repo for something that is supposed to change regularly. It wouldn't be on main and constantly in flux in dev. Issues, and milestones, and the other GitHub fancy thingamajigs can serve this purpose better

Isn't this what "milestones" in GH issues is for?

But I like the sentiment of the roadmap
e
Yep, makes sense, thank y'all 😄
imma make some milestones now 😛

GH projects isn't perfect, but I think being able to see visually a kanban board with what's on the backlog, what's in progress, etc. with priories (P0) and milestones is basically the roadmap

I do still think that such a skill properly connected via github can help properly organize things, and create issues, milestones and so on

it also bunches similar issues in the same Pr, and then release. Also bunches breaking stuff into one release all together, which I also like
m
I do like it too, it was nice to see planning in releases, which how many estimated file changes and such
m
e
but as pipeline maintainers the highest we can go is Milestones, right? Projects can only be create by nf-core core members or not?
Oh, it seems I also can
p
+1 for milestones and possibly also a pinned issue
Projects are nice but I've never managed to make them stick, personally (despite trying quite hard)
I use milestones extensively for MultiQC and some other projects and they're great. Super simple and easy to work with.
e
Agreed, they opened my appetite already: github.com/nf-core/proteinfamilies/milestones
