<!channel> I'm pleased to announce the first of (hopefully) two(!!) 2026 nf-core/mag papers was just released in PLoS Computational Biology: De novo assembly and authentication of ancient DNA metagenomes with nf-core/mag https://journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1014591 If you are trying to assemble ancient DNA (or ultra-short/degraded reads), please have a look at the following 'primer' paper on some strategies and food-for-thoughts on how to do de novo assembly on stupidly short and damaged sequencing reads. It also comes with a companion tutorial (see the associated GitHub repo) on how to set up and run nf-core/mag Big thanks to @Alex Hรผbner @Maxime Borry and our supervisor Tina Warriner for letting me wrangle them to getting our experiences onto paper as well as implementation in the pipeline.

Congrats. I'm sharing this internally as we have a project in our team with Ancient DNA. May poke you at some point with questions ๐Ÿ™

indeed
I'm not directly involved though

Me neither ๐Ÿ˜† but I also developed their metadata schema too on the ENA/BioSample side
(which was just formally released, so is under integration)

nice, I've mentioned SPAAM too.
