Is there a way to create a container with the Polars rt64 extra enabled in Seqera Containers, equivalent to
pip install polars[rt64]
?
e
This might work as an alternative if I install it in the same env with polars...let me check.. thanks 😄

Get claude to write you the conda env for it, and then use the wave cli to make the container for it.
e
Reporting back; It worked by adding
polars-runtime-64
(thanks @Matthias De Smet!) next to
polars
in the same env/container, so I didn't have to try the conda -> wave -> container combo. Good to have that in the arsenal though, for similar future cases that do not provide or work with such runtimes and need specific
extras
through pip installation.

Yeah conda can't do square bracket optional deps
e
I think conda can, it's just not possible with seqera containers through the UI
p
How does the conda spec look for that?
I just kicked off an agent to add in a raw textbox option to the web UI to allow folks to handle these more complex edge cases. I've been meaning to add it for ages.

Something like this:
Copy code
---
# yaml-language-server: $schema=<https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nf-core/modules/master/modules/environment-schema.json>
channels:
  - conda-forge
  - bioconda
dependencies:
  - conda-forge::orjson=3.11.4
  - conda-forge::pip=25.3
  - conda-forge::python=3.14.0
  - pip:
      - polars[rt64]==1.41.2
Oh it's through
pip
, you are right 😛

Wave can handle that yaml can't it? I'm almost certain I've done it, or someone else has.
m
Yes it can! Check out module for multiqcsav
p
Yeah pip is fine
Just saying that conda can't do the square brackets
That's why you need the variants of the packages with -whatever if you want it to be pure conda
(Pip is suboptimal as isn't described in the conda lock file, and seems to break more often)
Hi folks: Small public service announcement - I updated https://seqera.io/containers/ today so that you can edit a
environment.yml
file directly within the web page. This means that you can now pin to specific conda build numbers, something that has come up a few times. This has always been possible via the CLI, but few are aware of it. So I also added a hint about the CLI when you're editing the environment.yml file 🙂

This will be such a great help when updating modules 😄 no more messing about with singularity checksums
