Question about versioning in an nf-core pipeline dev branch: I have spent the past few months working on the dev branch and have made several PRs with major updates. I did not bump the version because I thought semantic versioning only applied to the release branch, such as
main
or
master
. My question is: should I update the dev version, for example from
<http://1.1.0.dev|1.1.0.dev>
to
<http://1.2.0.dev|1.2.0.dev>
, each time I make changes/upgrades to the dev branch? Or should I leave the version unchanged until the pipeline is ready for release? Thank you.
a
1.1.0dev
should mean that
master
is on
1.0.0
. You don’t bump the version on the dev branch until after the next release -
1.1.0
. It is simply indicating what the next release is, it is not it’s own separate versioning system.
