The early "Nextflow hack" events (predecessors to the summit) pioneered having a group-cooking event for the main social. These were really popular, especially with Boof at AWS who kept paying for them 😆 so we kept doing them at every Barcelona event until we got too big to fit. One of those events we gave away nf-core aprons.
Famously at the first one a few of us from the early core team (@Maxime Garcia, me, Alex, Harshil, I forget who else..) ended up on the "make drinks for everyone" station. We of course set up an effecient parallelisation system. We cleared them completely out of rum. Guy said it had never happened before 😂

Umbrella was another swag item, but I don't really remember any amusing stories about those

They are pretty nice. It's one swag item I use all the time. Also the Nextflow thermo-mug thing I have from one summit some time. A black one.

I guess it is mostly the fond memories and stories that people associate with them rather than the items itself. For example, there used to be the tradition to plank at nf-core Hackathons. I hope this is being honored also this time!
