Generally we've had some regrets on the team about how the preview status of outputs has been handled
note that workflow inputs (typed params) and record types are going straight out without a preview status

what I never understood is that we had preview for topics but not such breaking point when switching out of preview

Nobody used topics 😉
How long were topics in preview? Because workflow output definitions were in preview for 3 Nextflow versions
(I know that because I had to dredge back through the documentation last week to figure out what I needed to change to downgrade to v24.10 for AWS Healthomics)

yeah not as long I think, and as you say - we did the major migration effort after they came out of preview. And I think we might have had a similar discussion about minimum nextflow version in the template for those too

I was using topics to test out, and no issues
I was using workflow outputs to test out and issues
but maybe because topics is the maxime operator
