Is there a way to block github actions in a PR temporarily? It feels wasteful to trigger all those resources when making multiple commits on a WIP branch that's already in an open PR.

If only there was a way to make them all stop when it's a Draft PR...

not in an easy way. the quickest is to make a PR where you change the extension of all files in .github/workflows so they are not recognized and then to drop that PR once you are ready

Hah, sounds hacky, but I'll keep it in mind 🙂 Thanks!
p
Or just.. don't push until you're ready? 😅

(But yeah I understand)

not sure
I'd prefer to not adapt my personal and completely subjective way of working to work around github's idiosyncrasies 😉
I.e., I often push as a rudimentary form of backup, to keep working on different machines, etc.
But specifically for nf-core work it would make some sense, so +1 for the suggestion!
And considering how often I end up squashing, fixup'ing and rebasing, it might cause less noise for all the people tagged in the PR too.

Yeah I'm a bit the same

Nothing stops you pushing to a remote but not opening a PR though?

Consider your waste of resources a drop in the ocean compared to people using AI to have romantic conversations with a robot and move on to greener pastures 😉

True, but this instance was specifically during the review process.

I decided this must be something people want frequently enough that is exists and indeed you can add

(or a number of other trigger words) to your commit message to stop the workflows being triggered. official docs
