I tried to move to work with the new plugin infrastructure. Had two problems - one is that I get weird Java incompatibility errors depending on the minimal Nextflow version: 23.04 didn't work, 24.04 did. Other problem is that I'm getting 403 errors on make release and I'm not sure how to debug them. Anyone having similar issues?
n
Not sure about the java issues but you need to claim the plugin in the registry and use an access token, you can follow this guide to see how to do that: https://www.nextflow.io/docs/edge/plugins/plugin-registry.html#plugin-registry-page
r
Yes, I did that :)
n
Is the plugin claim already accepted?
r
Yes
n
Okay weird 😅 let's see what other people say

when we (nf-nomad plugin) were using 23 we had several gradle issues depending of the jdk we're using to build the release (something as
Incompatible because this component declares a component compatible with Java 11 and the consumer needed a component compatible with Java 19
) we needed to "fully" upgrade to 24 and it required several changes https://github.com/nextflow-io/nf-nomad/commit/737410d34249d6ffb2f3e2babc1b5b69a6e0caa3
about 403, can only recomended to double check the environment variable

@Roy can you share what the errors are please?

that's the Java error, you can reproduce it by going on this branch: https://github.com/royjacobson/nf-python/tree/java_compat_problem and building the plugin, or (if it doesn't reproduce) you can run the CI locally with act+docker:
act -W .github/workflows/nextflow-plugin.yml
About the 403 error: If I don't put any API key or not the correct one, I get this error:
Copy code
* What went wrong:
Execution failed for task ':releasePluginToRegistry'.
> Failed to release plugin to registry <https://registry.nextflow.io/api/v1/plugins/release>: HTTP 401 - {"type":"NOT_AUTHENTICATED","message":"Authentication failed - Reason: missing or invalid API key"}
But once I put the correct API key in I get this 403 forbidden message:
Copy code
* What went wrong:
Execution failed for task ':releasePluginToRegistry'.
> Failed to release plugin to registry <https://registry.nextflow.io/api/v1/plugins/release>: HTTP 403 - {"type":"FORBIDDEN","message":"Forbidden"}

@Ben Sherman / @Jorge - any idea what's going on here?

if I'm not wrong nextflow 24 upgraded to java 17 minimum so it's difficult to have same plugin for both versions, you need to upgrade to 24 and use java 17> The "unsupported class" say you are compiling with java 21 but maybe your jdk is lower so basically you need to "align" all your java versions abouth forbidden: my token looks as "npr_pat_PBPM/cc836---/------" , if your token looks similar try to create another one
