1.8 Redstone Permasuppressor
# open-problems
m
The any% TAS world record uses version 1.8 and uses a Credits Warp:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFq4CHoW2vY▾

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Duv2KYMiT0w▾

This credits warp could be improved by using permasuppressed redstone dust, similar to how it's used in 1.12 any% speedruns:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Luwkl36rbTw▾

But nobody has made a setup for 1.8 redstone permasuppression so far. So I am creating this open problem thread for it, until someone makes it. An async line setup for 1.8 is here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGlTtBUb1r8▾

However there is one big problem with this setup: It breaks the River Biome Decorator. For speedrunning applications it would be much preferable to have a way to turn on 1.8 permasuppressed dust without destroying any Biome Decorators. This means: We need to make a 1.8 async line setup in the Nether, because there are no decorators there. And that's the whole open problem: Make a 1.8 async line setup in the nether, and point the end of the async line into some redstone dust. If you do this, the world record for any% TAS in minecraft can be improved.
c
fine ill finish it
i stopped for a while because my invisible chunk stopped invisible chunking
presumably because i loaded a 2x2 grid of chunks including it
My current setup causes many crashes due to it's layout for some reason, so I want to sort of rework it.
v
What is the problem with a nether setup?
Does the nether fire blocks cause the same crash as in 1.12?
c
yes i think so
v
but we are using a creative world, so we are allowed to just fill away all fire blocks
c
yea and i did
v
so that should not be an essential issue
c
thats not the problem though, my crash reports are not very helpful

v
We probably should deobfuscate this stack trace
c
Yeah i have a tool for that i just forgot where i put it
m
There is no big problem. It is just work to actually make it.
m
The most interesting part of this is that youre running windows 8.1
c
im running windows 11 wtf
m
> Operating System: Windows 8.1 (amd64) version 6.3 idk
c
idk why it says that
Ok im gonna make another attempt at the setup.
m
I think a 1.8 async line setup in the nether has a chance to spawn a nether fortress at an unexpect location, if you have multiple stained glass doing the async reload.
It can be prevented by already having a nether fortress in the glass chunk
but it's not a huge issue anyway, since the redstone permassupression setup doesn't need to be repeatable
m
What does Any% mean
m
The any% speedrun is just the speedrun that tries to beat the game as fast as possible. It is general speedrunning terminology.
e
I know this is a lot of work, but I'd like to make an ultimate TAS in 1.8 and the permasuppressor would be really helpful 👉 👈
m
Ok, I'll do it myself right now
Doesn't even need to be survival friendly, just fully vanilla
Ok I managed to make a setup that reliably creates one async line and crashes it into redstone dust, without destroying any biome decorators. I'll upload the world file now.
It produces the correct crash in the redstone. I didn't get permasuppressed redstone yet, but I think my java version is currently wrong for that
I did like 20 attempts and didn't get it yet
c
no
m
Ok, then that's the problem
c
java 18+
m
@CactusCreative Where do I download that?
c
what launcher do you use
c
yes
m
I know how where to select the jre in my installation
c
that should work
c
what does java-programmdatei mean? is it just "java program"?
m
yes
it means java program file
c
yes, then that makes sense
m
I also have a jdk-23 lying around
A jdk should include the jre right?
c
yes
m
So I can take the bin folder from that?
c
java 23 will make 1.8 very mad tho
yes
m
And java 18 is fine for 1.8?
c
yeah, it will complain but it wont be too bad
m
Ok 1.8 seems to run fine on java 23
Async line setup still works
c
ok, good
it might be more crashy tho
not the setup
the instance as a whole
On second try
So my world file works. But I might need to clean out some redstone so it doesn't shut down the game a few seconds after that
c
thats good
m
Wait, did I seriously upload an unzipped file. That's why it took so long
c
it zipped it for me
m
I just uploaded a world file unzipped
Ok
Anyway, I will remove some crashy redstone and then upload another version
Ok, I managed to get permasuppression in 1.8.8 vanilla, java 23, without instantly crashing the game
I will upload the world file now
c
rd16?
m
Yes
It's the 1.8 epf setup
c
yeah i saw
i think thats the minimum to avoid crashes for some reason
m
Anyway, in 1.8 if you have permasuppressed redstone dust and you place a single piece of redstone in survival, it just turns into a 0 stack but doesn't disappear from the inventory
You can place as many redstone as you want from a single redstone dust item because the item count just goes negative
You use it exactly like this setup:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGlTtBUb1r8▾

except after every time you get an async line you additionally flick a redstone lever at the player platform 2-3 times
and after each unsuccessful attempt go to a new backup of the world file
Render Distance 16
Java Version 18+
Mxi should get a lot of credit for the setup
e
Woooow... Thanks a lot! That was quick lol
m
Btw, did you manage to get it to work once?
e
I didnt test it, bc I instantly started working on a new TAS. I trust you it works, but I can test it out later today
^("working on a new TAS" = started seedfinding for a completely different seed, which skips the nether and might take a while to find)
m
that would entail getting eyes from villagers?
and spawning close to the portal ig
e
yeah, my plan is to get eyes from villagers like last time
previously I used a nether portal, bc of several reasons: when you spawn very close to the portal it will definitely be in the spawn chunks. This rules out a pearl hang to reenter the end. (when the pearl is loaded and you die, the pearl disappears). I'm currently searching for a ravine exposed portal room with a blacksmith very close by
oh before I forget about it: zelario already has a run with the permasurpressed redstone dust
and nsla just got a new WR (0:58 -> 0:54). 4 seconds were saved by using the permasurpressed redstone dust and a new seed
m
Nice!
Where can I find nsla's 0:54 speedrun? It's not on the speedrunning leaderboard.
e
I couldn't find it as well. I asked nsla
nsla will upload it
nsla had an illegal (inactive) mod in the mod folder and therefore thought this makes the run unverifiable
