This thread is about doing falling block in skyblock maps.
My most complete overview of how to do this is in this reddit comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/technicalminecraft/comments/180nh6z/deleted_by_user/ka7jfix/
The first question is what kind of world exactly we are using. Option 1: A superflat world with preset "3;air;3;dungeon,decoration" I don't like this option, because the nether is not empty. Also if you create a completely air superflat world, then the game for some stupid reaon disables decoration making it impossible to turn on overworld ITT. So this option would basically just be completely normal falling block in the nether. Option 2: A pre-generated world with a small world border. So we set the world border to be only 10000 blocks away, and we pregenerate all chunks within the world border as empty unpopulated chunks, in both nether and overworld. And for the world generator we use something like "3;stone;3;dungeon,decoration,mansion", so that the overworld population can place dungeons and liquid pockets in the pre-generated empty overworld chunks if the player builds the correct stuff in them. I include woodland mansions in the superflat generator, not because they will ever get placed, but because including them is important for 1.12 RNG manipulation to work as usual.
I personally like option 2 the most.
q
Option 2 seems good
Would a chunk swap with very crude technology require more space than that?
m
No, it doesn't need more space than that.
For the chunk swap I would have used my large fern setup: https://discord.com/channels/961702940102504518/961705050923733102/1276859272625524747
If you have void chunks you can also use it to produce async lines
q
seems fun
did you every figure out with bolan how to get mobs to consistently spawn on your block when jumping?
Also, if woodland mansions just take up an arbitrary amount of rng calls surely you can just adjust your rng manipulation setup to cut those out
Are they required on a more advanced level than just burning calls?
m
No, the important thing about the woodland mansion is that it seeds the RNG. You can't just cut that out.
It doesn't do a constant number of RNG calls, but rather it sets the state of the world RNG to a specific state depending on position of the chunk and world seed, no matter what the RNG state was before
Instead of woodland mansions you could also take any other structure, because all overworld structures seed the world RNG when an overworld chunk is loaded, but you need at least one overworld structure in your world generator for this to happen.
So far I have just convinced myself that this is definitely possible, but I haven't actually done the calculation yet
mostly because I wasn't 100% sure yet what exactly I want
I think I want a zombie with a shovel, so I can shovel snow
but then I actually need to start in a biome in which it can snow
but I also need apples later to cure zombie villagers, so I later need access to a biome in which oak trees can populate
This seems to suggest that the world needs to have multiple different biomes, instead of just being 1 biome, and I'm not yet sure whether I like that
but I think having multiple different biomes in the world is ok

@Myren "After many attempts, I still haven’t managed to get sugarcane to generate. I do get grass, flowers, and trees. Is there something I’m missing? Any help would be appreciated."
m
Yeah, those are good attempts. If you get those for a few hours you will get the chunk swap.
Oh, wait
You got two chunk swaps directly after each other? This looks very very good.
After the first chunk swap you should have gotten the async repeater line
The chances on your computer seem to be much better than the chances I got when I tried to record my video, because you got multiple chunk swaps after just 15 minutes or so. But if you did not get an async repeater line from this, then there is something wrong with the setup. Maybe you lost the savestates.
I think you need to log in shortly after an autosave, because the chunk 74 -4 needs a few seconds to savestate. If you log in right before an autosave, you could lose the savestates, and then 74 -4 will be populated on disk, and asyncly loading it won't trigger an async population.
t
I think I managed to get the async repeater line working on one of my first attempts, but it crashed after some time. The results seem inconsistent sometimes it works better with fewer pistons, and oddly enough, it performs best when there are no pistons at all. Even without any pistons, it occasionally tells me to remove some I’m also a bit lost about the Minecraft version requirements. Does the world need to be in 1.12, or can it be 1.12.2? In the video, it looks like you're using 1.12.2, but the profiler server file is for 1.12. I can’t join it using my Carpet client on 1.12.2. How did you set it up so Carpet works for testing? Once I find the best piston configuration, will it only work in single-player on 1.12, or can it also run properly on a Carpet server? Finally, if my world is already in 1.12.2, is there any way to make this setup work?
k
1.12.2 is good I think myren said
m
It doesn't matter whether it's 1.12.0 or 1.12.2
"but it crashed after some time." Yeah, this is the first time I tried using a sign anticrasher, because I wanted to test whether they work or not, and it turns out they do not work at all. The only anticrashers that actually work are the 8001 gtick clocks. But maybe you can just get lucky and get the end portal quickly enough that you can get it before the game crashes. "The results seem inconsistent sometimes it works better with fewer pistons, and oddly enough, it performs best when there are no pistons at all. Even without any pistons, it occasionally tells me to remove some" Then on your computer you should definitely use zero pistons. And yes, everything about clusterless rehash chunk swaps is super inconsistent, and the pistons are just a desperate attempt to control something that is inherently difficult to control. "Does the world need to be in 1.12, or can it be 1.12.2?" It makes zero difference. I just made the server in 1.12.0 because I have skill issues with programming. "Once I find the best piston configuration, will it only work in single-player on 1.12, or can it also run properly on a Carpet server?" I don't know. I hope it works similarly on all of them, but I don't actually know that. Nobody knows what the best way is to handle the randomness and hardware dependence of rehash chunk swaps. The profiler server and piston delays are an attempt to handle it, but it might not be a very good way of doing it. It's just the best thing I could think of. I'm trying my best, and that's all I can do.
Btw, questions that are related to the async setup can also be posted to the
questions-and-help
chat, because they are actually threadstone related. I only found the dungeon generation chat a bit annoying earlier. It's up to you. I will answer questions both here and in the other chat.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation—it was very helpful. Just to add some context, the tests I ran were on a Fedora Linux system that was a bit corrupted. When I tried using a normal setup with synced observers, I was able to generate a command block on the first click about 90% of the time. Almost every attempt gave me command block or wood I was under the impression that the newer setups were very reliable and consistent. However, now that I’m running on a fresh Ubuntu Linux installation, the behavior is completely different—it takes over 100 attempts to get command block . Can you help me understand how to implement the skyblock setup in Survival Mode? 1. save the state of chunk (74, -4). or do i need to save state more chunks ? 2. create a setup that makes the chunk (74, -4) invisible, and add chests and hoppers at the chunk border between (75, -4) and (74, -4) for saving state. 3. build the rest of the setup.
m
"I was under the impression that the newer setups were very reliable and consistent." The normal setups (void's synchronized method) with beacons and dragon eggs are very consistent. The skyblock setup uses zero beacons. This makes everything much more difficult and requires us to use completely different methods. The skyblock setup is pretty much the first overworld async line setup without beacons. It is new stuff. While I had the theory for this thing in my head for a few years already, the actual setup is something I quickly threw together 3 weeks ago. It is not optimized at all. "Can you help me understand how to implement the skyblock setup in Survival Mode?" The current plan is: 1. Savestate 74 -4 and 75 -4. 2. Make 74 -4 invisible, by suppressing the population of 75 -4. Inside the invisible chunk 74 -4 place four chests chests, and also push in the stone and the stained glass block into 74 -4 already. Place savestate books in the chests in the invisible chunk, a checkerboard pattern of type 1 in the lower chests, differently named type 2 in the upper chests, and then wait for an autosave and let the invisible chunk get saved to disk. Then 74 -4 should be unpopulated on disk but still have all the blocks inside. 3. Build the rest of the setup. Make sure you never place any blocks or block light in the void chunk 71 0. Now I should mention that this is just one of many possible ways one could handle the savestates in this setup, and I'm not sure whether the method I chose is optimal. But it definitely works.
it works
m
Nice!
t
using the anticrasher makes more crashing
m
"using the anticrasher makes more crashing" Good to know. I'll tell people to not use it in the future.
k
Might just be their specific PC but who knwos
t
not scientific but i only have success when anti crusher is off with it on i can get a crush in less then 5 min when not using it i had it run over 40 min no crashing at all that let me get the end portal 3 times or so getting the end portal in about 10 -30 min mostly around 15 min i have some more questions in the video you place back the stone in water pocket is this is just for creative testing using the /chunk command?? no need to do in survival setup? some of the block states pallet is from blocks we do not have in the game yet what will be a replacement for the setup ? after we get the invisible chunk is it make seance to add ITT off switch or should i not worry about it and just finish setup the invisible chunk and the save states then it should be safe to restart server and finish building all the rest of the setup? after re join portal becomes invisible but it is there facing hopper with an item in to it fix it am i spouse to do that? and last question will i be able to use exact same setup to get more types of blocks? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1327253606277320770/1378008789394915469/Screenshot_from_2025-05-27_22-43-12.png?ex=683b0a31&is=6839b8b1&hm=cb891cf760c80d8599ad2c6c051139f3d64729b1ca373fa78da4462e72df024b&
m
"not scientific but i only have success when anti crusher is off" Then don't use the anticrasher. Your empirical observations are perfectly scientific. "i have some more questions in the video you place back the stone in water pocket is this is just for creative testing using the /chunk command?? no need to do in survival setup?" At the liquid pocket location there needs to be either stone or air, and it needs to be surrounded by stone on 5 sides. If there is already water at the liquid pocket location then no new liquid pocket will get placed and then it doesn't work. So you have to delete the liquid pocket, but it's up to you whether you put stone or air there. "some of the block states pallet is from blocks we do not have in the game yet what will be a replacement for the setup ? " All blocks from the palette are obtainable in skyblock. There's a villager selling quartz pillars that you can make into quartz slabs and quartz stairs. But if you want you can replace the blocks by other blocks. You just need to have 256 different blockstates in the subchunk and can freely chose which one you use. "after we get the invisible chunk is it make seance to add ITT off switch or should i not worry about it and just finish setup the invisible chunk and the save states then it should be safe to restart server and finish building all the rest of the setup?" I have no opinion about this. You can probably build the setup while ITT is on. It's up to you. "and last question will i be able to use exact same setup to get more types of blocks?" Yes, you should be able to get many other blocks using the setup. If you do that, I suggest starting with Redstone Block + Water = Quartz Ore so you get quartz and can make observers.
t
Minecraft version 1.12, there is no mason villager profession. The mason profession, along with its associated job site block (the stonecutter), was introduced later in the Village & Pillage update (version 1.14).
m
but I guess minecraft wiki is wrong then
Ah, wait the mason is before village&pillage only in bedrock edition, so it's my mistake
Maybe you can fill the palette with differently colored wool and carpet blocks. How many colors do we have in the one block world?
m
Then you should be able to complete the palette with colored wool, carpets, stained glass and stained glass panes.
m
Looks good to me. On a carpet server you can also verify it with the
/palette size
command, but I'm sure this is fine already.
m
Good luck getting the end portal. Be careful to not lose the savestates.
k
Make backups
t
lots of backups i do try to record it all make it more work i think we have it all correct just need too build the rest of the setup and pray
@Myren One thing I do not understand yet, and I was not able to find a good explanation for, is how to find the exact block location where we would like to combine blocks binary and create a new block. My understanding is the game runs on 2 cores at that point, and we split the binary string to result in a new block on one core, water; on the other core, redstone ore. The binary string is split, and the end result when combined gives quartz ore instead. What is the method of finding these locations? Can you please direct me in the right way?
HIGH 8 BITS (Block A): XXXXXXXX LOW 5 BITS (Block B): YYYYY = Combined blockstate: XXXXXXXX YYYYY End Portal 00111011 10000 Quartz Ore 10011001 00000 it looks the same logic for both end portal and quartz ore end portal and quartz ore ore ca be made in same block location ? is the exact location of the block responsible to how the bits string get split ?
m
Either use the positions I marked out in the world download of this video at 20:48:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-TLpc5oyhg&t=1248s▾

Or use the carpet command
/palette posInfo
at various locations in a subchunk with over 256 blockstates until you stumble on a location where the block id is spread out over two longs.
That is correct.
The same location that works for Cauldron+Water = End Portal will also work for Redstone Block + Water = Quartz Ore
Nice observation.
t
this is amazing how deep this exploit is truly amazing work to get to this point i did not realize i will have to learn so much thank you for your help

m
And you used a giant rail contraption just so it wouldn't turn on ITT?
Ah, wait you did turn on ITT
t
hmm i do think it do ITT with the rail same way i just have no observer and did what i used long time ago there is probably way more basic way to do it
m
You can use a budded water bucket dispenser
You update suppressed a lava pocket with rails
That update suppressed when ITT is on
Sorry for not telling you about this
t
yes to get 74 -4 invisble
m
anyway good job for getting it to work.
t
budded water bucket dispenser just updated by the lava?
m
Yes
When you update a dipenser it first places the water, then it empties the water bucket item and then it becomes a powered dispenser. But when ITT is on, the dispenser first places the water, then updates itself, places the water again, in an infinite loop until it update suppresses
t
i did not play mine craft for about a year the hard price to pay
very cool
m
Why did the server close at the end of the video?
Did a creeper explode and the rails update suppressed the explosion?
I've never seen anyone fight mobs on top of an ITT switch before
t
i think it is the mob explosion made an update
mobs is crazy in this world
k
Try it
m
What is that weird redstone ore+water=redstone ore recipe?
I was previously talking about using redstone blocks to produce quartz ore, not using redstone ore to create redstone ore.
The anvil should also work. You just need to do it at the correct location. And then move the last few modules of the repeater line so they point at that location.
t
i did get it mix in my head redstone blocks make scene
m
gg
i have the survival setup working !!!! thank you Myren for all the help
m
No video?
t
its not 100% legit i end up using mob do not spawn to test why it crash so much then end up having very lucky run did 4 block swaps crash after 45 min or so but technically it works 100% and mobs and pistons make it crush i will replay that and make video is the end spouse to be empty? i have normal end or did i do sum thing wrong
m
"is the end spouse to be empty? i have normal end" My world file has completely normal end
Like, if you manage to get to the end you've basically already beaten the whole challenge, so I thought it doesn't matter whether it's empty or not
But it would unnecessarily increase the file size even further if I pregenerated the whole end
k
I agree, though ig the exit portal would be a bit harder to hrt
Gt
Get
m
If the end is pregenerated as completely empty, then the exit portal is A LOT harder to get, because it's impossible to turn on instant tile ticks in the end.
Actually, I think if I make the chunks in the end unpopulated, then that would spawn the enderdragon at 0, 0 and maybe even generate the exit portal.
t
i do not remember the right versions but there is a version that will not generate any islands in the end only the main island rest is all empty void you can place the dragon in a bout and ride it in one of those older versions too i think ones its updated to 1. 12 exit portal works no problem ether way super cool challenge only took 99 backups / check points 3.24 days play time not includes all unsuccessful attempts that is include all my afk fish i bet its possible to do in a day by a good player https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1327253606277320770/1380562813189226587/image.png?ex=684454d0&is=68430350&hm=59126be7bdfe8cb7c54ff5bd5cd9715f3bd9ff5dcd88b97762a89024594819c8&
m
"but there is a version that will not generate any islands in the end only the main island rest is all empty void" Yeah, it's called "all versions from 1.0 to 1.8.9"
"that is include all my afk fish i bet its possible to do in a day by a good player" I'm going to be so happy if this becomes an actual speedrun category.
k
What, vanilla oneblock?
m
Yeah, 1.12 vanilla oneblock speedrun
t
i just had most crazy lucky run with no game rules change no crash after 1.5 hrs 2 end portals 1 quartz 1 bedrock and 3 diamonds almost broke my pick before getting the last portal i will post a video soon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuV6v5_eFjo▾

this is part 2 of the setup building in the invisible chunk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr8cLVrmcNA&feature=youtu.be▾

i think the only missing parts to make it will be to have more reliable way to get the chunk swap will cluster chunks help to do it any faster? outer wise its to much pure luck same with some of the setups for getting stone sugarcane etc it works but not all attempts some times the chunks able to re lode even if you in the safe area maybe using ender pearls can solve that even when using books i had same problems it was able to repopulate on my way out of the contraption same at the async setup i have a recording of it repopulating on the way out of the chunks that why i use render 12 ones i am at the setup and then i exit in a portal or you have to log of right there i never had any problems like it with save state the grind to get the 1st iron can take for ever and probably why not many will even try i think it will be cool to make a full run of this in hard core mode starting on 1 block next to a zombie that always drop an iron
m
"will cluster chunks help to do it any faster?" Yes, it would probably make it work in the first one or two attempts. And adding cluster chunks wouldn't even increase the building effort, because you have to place 300 chunk loading chests anyway, and you could just use those chests to load 100-150 cluster chunks if they are arranged in the correct pattern.
