this is something we will have to improve in our docs, but the third value in your array actually doesn't have any effect. in order to get the highest layer as 540, you will have to acquire the camera track with these settings (the highest layer is always automatically the original one acquired from the device)

and I guess adaptive streaming always starts with HIGH simulcast layer and then SFU will dictate what is the highest requested resolution and participant’s publisher will adapt to it…

you are reading from currently doesn’t update when adaptive stream is being used. Agreed that this is a bit misleading, will open an issue about it. Either we need to clarify that the reading is only reflecting the correct state if setting the quality manually or update it also for adaptive stream changes!
