04/10/2026, 11:44 AMgenerate_reply() / session.say() and/or by waiting to detect user speech. Options:
• Simple fixed delay (fastest):
◦ After detecting the participant has joined the call, wait a short time (e.g., 500–1500 ms) then call generate_reply() or session.say().
◦ Example patterns: await asyncio.sleep(1.0) (Python) or setTimeout(..., 1000) (Node).
• Delay + only speak if no user speech:
◦ After participant join, start a timer (e.g., 1–3s). If you detect user speech during that window, cancel the agent reply. If timer elapses with no user speech, call generate_reply().
◦ Use participant audio/speech detection events to know when the user starts speaking.
Notes:
• There is no built-in initial_delay option — the delay must be implemented in your agent logic.
• Use ctx.wait_for_participant() (or equivalent) to confirm the SIP/participant is present before starting the delay.
If you’d like, tell me:
• which language/runtime you’re using (Node or Python), and
• whether you already have speech-detection events available,
and I’ll provide a short code snippet you can drop into your agent.
