Hey team,
I’m using useChat() from @livekit/components-react to send chat messages with attachments like this:
const { chatMessages, isSending, send } = useChat();
const handleSendMessage = async () => {
try {
setMessageText('');
await send(messageText, { ...(file ? { attachments: [file] } : {}) });
} catch {}
};
When the sender (local) sends a attachedFiles and attributes, the message object that useChat() returns includes:
• attachedFiles (if I pass them)
• attributes (if I pass them)
But on the receiver (remote) side, the same message is missing both:
• attachedFiles is missing
• attributes is missing
So the sender can see the attached file and metadata, but the remote participant never receives them.
Question
Is this the expected behavior?
Does LiveKit’s chat system not transfer attachments or attributes to remote participants?
Any clarification on how useChat() handles attachments/attributes for remote users would be appreciated.
Thanks!
