What settings are you currently using? What platform are you on?
n
The default from Meet with some leftovers from experimentations:
Copy code
return {
			audioCaptureDefaults: {
				autoGainControl: true,
				deviceId: userChoices.audioDeviceId ?? undefined,
				echoCancellation: true,
				noiseSuppression: true,
			},
			videoCaptureDefaults: {
				deviceId: userChoices.videoDeviceId ?? undefined,
				resolution: hq === "true" ? VideoPresets.h2160 : VideoPresets.h1080,
			},
			publishDefaults: {
				screenShareEncoding: {
					maxBitrate: 4_000_000,
					maxFramerate: 30,
				},
				dtx: false,
				videoSimulcastLayers:
					hq === "true"
						? [VideoPresets.h1080, VideoPresets.h1080]
						: [VideoPresets.h540, VideoPresets.h216],
			},
			adaptiveStream: { pixelDensity: "screen" },
			dynacast: true,
		};
Using Javascript react SDK
d
which browser and client SDK version are you publilshing from?
n
Google Chrome 117.0.5938.149 livekit-client ^1.14.1
This is the quality of the screenshare, nearly the same size as my macbook pro 14inch
Perhaps the settings above aren’t optimized for screen sharing a full screen? I changed a few that I took from an example - but if I could get help to make this as clear as possible I’d appreciate it 🙏
d
Got it! Yeah, looks like it's capturing at the full resolution, but not including the fact that most machines now render at higher pixel density than 1. CC: @polite-kilobyte-67570 For now, can you try using
Copy code
room.localParticipant.setScreenShareEnabled(true, {
  resolution: {
    width: 3500,
    height: 2000,
  }
})
? does it look sharper after setting that?

I just tried the above and the screenshare still capped out at 1x pixel density.

Okay thanks for taking a look. Is there a way around this with LiveKit atm, or something I should factor in to using it? Again, appreciate the help
p
huh, seems to be working for me

^ this was with specified dimension. Without specified dimensions, so full resolution, I get
n
Yeah same, I removed all manual settings and the resolution got a lot better - thanks for the help
d
huh.. that's great.. but now I'm scratching my head wondering why I couldn't get it to capture at that resolution 🤔
