This is a bit tricky, we need to encapsulate the vaapi into an external encoder and register it with libwebrtc. here may be a relevant reference https://github.com/open-webrtc-toolkit/owt-client-native/tree/829a9625636c3697095ba70322c6fffdf630a76f/talk/owt/sdk/base

@polite-breakfast-82135 as Duan confirmed, libwebrtc doesn't support hw en/decoding on Linux. If you have cycles and would be interested in adding that capability, we can point you in the right direction. Eventually we'd want vaapi support on Linux, there are just a bunch of other things that rank higher on our list of priorities

thank you all! appreciate you all chiming in 🙂 @freezing-lifeguard-43174 thanks for the link, I'll take a deeper look in the next couple of days to see how this works. @dry-elephant-14928 I would love to get some direction and try my best to help! I assume there might be some implementation that I could reference such as chrome or android? Would appreciate any details on this 🙏🏽

lk flutter sdk uses this cpp library https://github.com/webrtc-sdk/libwebrtc for linux/windows, https://github.com/webrtc-sdk/libwebrtc/tree/main/src/win here is win Using intel media sdk, maybe you can refer to these codes and try to add similar implementation in linux

Thanks @freezing-lifeguard-43174 Do you all think that doing an election app would better allow hardware acceleration capabilities with chromium? Or i know firefox vaapi works so maybe a web app running in firefox?

Chrome doesn't support vaapi for WebRTC, if Electron is using Chrome, I think it'll have the same limitations.
