what do you mean exactly? If you’re trying to implement a client that uses the LiveKit SDK to connect to a Janus server… that’s theoretically possible but sounds like a lot of work. LiveKit is really designed as an end-to-end system on both the server and client
r
Hey Noah, thanks for the quick reply. Yes, that is exactly what I am trying to do. Would you please be so kind and point me in the direction of accomplishing this. The idea of my team was to write our own SignalClient. Is that the right approach?
a
really depends on the details of what you want to do… but I believe Janus allows you to write plugins, so that might be a better approach
r
Writing Janus plugins is out of scope for us. But thanks for the suggestion. The goal is the following: We want to connect the audio streams from LiveKit participants to a Janus instance in order to make them hearable to phone callers. The current setup uses Janus instances only: 1. We connect phone callers to an audio-room using the Janus SIP and Audiobridge plugins. 2. We connect the webinar participants to the same audio-room using the Janus Videoroom and Audiobridge plugins. Now we want to change the second part and connect participants from LiveKit to the audio-room. Does this help?

So, if you’re not using the Livekit signalling protocol I don’t think it makes sense to use LiveKit SDKs — you might as well just use whatever Janus client libraries already exist
I’m curious why you want to use LiveKit though
r
The vast majority of connections are participants within a webinar. And LiveKit does this job very well! Connecting phone callers is an edge case, but we still need to provide this feature. As I said, we are currently using a Janus-only setup, but are not very happy with it. We tested LiveKit for the web-app and it looks very promising. Still, we need to connect callers. The lack of this feature might be a dealbreaker for us.

Ah, I see. Yeah, at the moment we neither support nor have good recommendations for SIP. We’d like to add support in the future but can’t make any promises about when that might happen
r
Do you see any chance for us to accomplish this goal? Or is it a dead end?
a
Your best bet at the moment is to write a Janus plugin. But as you know, that will be a lot of work :/

Thank you so much for all the help!
