which platform sdk are you using?

Name is part of the AccessToken given to that participant (our docs on this is outdated. I'll update in a sec) quality can be updated by setting default capture and publish options: https://docs.livekit.io/realtime/client/publish/#advanced-track-management see
publishDefaults
and
videoCaptureDefaults

@acoustic-engineer-41666 @dry-elephant-14928 The documentation isn't very helpful as to how to switch the video quality after the track has already been published. I'm looking for something similar to switching devices where
useMediaDeviceSelect
allows access to the
setActiveMediaDevice
function so that we can switch the device. Is there a similar method for switching quality? Also, what would the accepted criteria be for switching? (For example, quality as in
1
,
2
, etc. of actually settings the dimensions
1080
, etc)
d
are you asking about adjusting the publishing quality dynamically afterwards? Unfortunately that isn't possible today.
a
Yeah that's what I wanted to do đŸ˜• Okay thanks for your help
@dry-elephant-14928 Is it possible to change someone's displayed name afterwards?
a
not really, since it’s it’s encoded in the token. If you want to maintain state like that, you should maintain it in your own backend
(actually I realized we ought to be able to do that… changing name is not supported at the moment but we might add it in the future)

@acoustic-engineer-41666 @dry-elephant-14928 Interesting okay. Well is there a way to set metadata for a participant and update that metadata from client side?
