I've also observed the unmute announcements in the Xcode debug logger whenever I enable video from the remote participant: "*2023-09-14T213724-0700 debug LiveKitSDK : [] MulticastDelegate<ParticipantDelegate>.notify(label ) [notify] participant.didUpdate muted: false* 2023-09-14T213724-0700 debug LiveKitSDK : [] MulticastDelegate<RoomDelegateObjC>.notify(label ) [notify] room.didUpdate muted: false"
I set up the room to be autosubscribe. In addition I manually try to subscribe and it doesn't have any impact on the video render. (I do see the subscribe events in the Xcode debug logger)
When I set breakpoints in ParticipantView it appears that "publication.muted" may remain true.
@dry-elephant-14928 @better-house-11852
Actually it appears to be the immediately following type-check in ParticipantView:
let track = publication.track as? VideoTrack,
          appCtx.videoViewVisible {
Since the LocalParticipant views their own camera,
videoViewVisible
must be true. Therefore it appears the track is not of type VideoTrack since the code steps over its closure block.
b
Hey I can't reproduce this. The example looks like it works.
I think you turned off VideoView visible option :
i
Thanks for getting back to me @better-house-11852. I have left that parameter enabled and I have also toggled it. It is working as expected; whenever I turn it off, I can no longer see my own video. If I use the build from the site via TestFlight, toggling the parameter turns off all video feeds, both local and remote. For some reason in my local build I can't view any remoteParticipants (nor hear their audio).
The only build warnings I receive are from BroadcastExt:
"Linking against a dylib which is not safe for use in application extensions: /Users/<myname>/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/LiveKitExample-dev-adosdqbbzuyimagowsglcjblwaoc/Build/Products/Debug-iphoneos/WebRTC.framework/WebRTC"
and a complaint regarding the build version of BroadcastExt (which I later arbitrarily changed to match the version number of the LiveKitExample app of 29):
The CFBundleVersion of an app extension ('24') must match that of its containing parent app ('29').
Is the TestFlight version using the most recent version of the swift-example code from the Github repo?
b
The test flight version is not the latest
main
branch.
The warnings shouldn't be related
i
Can you push the latest
main
branch through TestFlight? It would be good to ensure all of the recent changes are captured. @better-house-11852
There are definitely some indications that the app behavior has environment specific dependencies which are somehow not captured in the repo. For example, the repo has an
Assets.xcassets
called
LKRed
but not
lkRed
which is being used by the code. My clean build results in a chat cursor with no color since the asset doesn't exist. (see PR for my proposed fix: https://github.com/livekit-examples/swift-example/pull/26).
d
That's a great catch Rob. Thanks for the PR!

Thanks @dry-elephant-14928. Unfortunately I am still stuck with my clean build of swift-example not being able to view the video of other participants (neither iOS or meet.livekit.io). It is preventing me from moving on toward working with data channels (which is the main reason I want to adopt Livekit).
d
interesting.. did you build the main branch? and that's not working for you? what issues do you see?
👍 1
i
See earlier in this same thread. I have not been able to have the main branch iOS app client render the video (or audio) tracks from the other participants in the room.
I am willing to do the debug in a live or offline session but it has me stumped. It could also be an environment issue where some dependencies aren’t included in the repo. I am using Xcode 14.2 on the latest Monterey macOS (I don’t have access to any newer macbook hardware)
b
I'll check with xcode 14.2
I confirmed the example works with 14.2

Are you connecting to cloud or own server ?
i
A Livekit cloud. Would you like me to send you a token to join?

Maybe a screenshot of my library dependencies would also help: @dry-elephant-14928 @better-house-11852
Potentially unrelated but when turning on my camera on my local debug device I am seeing this LiveKit warning:
2023-09-24T09:00:11-0700 warning LiveKitSDK : [] VideoView.performLayout() dimensions are nil, cannot layout without dimensions, track: LocalVideoTrack(sid: TR_VCQcrLUGjWZ3SD, name: camera, source: Source(rawValue: 1))
Whenever I have my other iOS device (running the TestFlight version of the app) start streaming a track I see this LiveKit debug message.
2023-09-24T09:15:42-0700 debug LiveKitSDK : [] RemoteTrackPublication.set(track:) RemoteTrackPublication set track: nil
I wouldn’t expect the track to be
nil
. I get this same message on my local device whether I am enabling camera or microphone streaming from my other room participant devices. Could this explain why I cannot render (audio or video) of any remoteParticipants? Again I am running the debug mode iOS app as a clean build of the
swift-example
repo. @dry-elephant-14928
d
Hey RobF, sorry I'm not following this. I'm not able to replicate these issues with swift example on my device..
