can you provide more details? what does "lagging" look like? is it higher latency or choppy? is this reproducible across devices? and which version of the client SDK and server are you running?
b
Yes it is reproducible in almost all android devices. I have tested with Oneplus Nord 2, samsung m42, redmi note 8 pro, samsung Tab A7 and Samsung Tab A8. Video was lagging in all these devices.
And network/bandwidth was also good still video was lagging. I have used livekit_client version 1.3.0 in flutter and 1.4.4 in server.
d
1.3.0 does not correctly support vp9. proper VP9 support will come in the next release (1.5.0). We've fixed multiple bugs on the server side too in 1.4.5. I recommend using vp8 for now and switching after 1.5.0 gets released in about a week.
sorry this isn't correctly documented. we've been discovering bugs and have been working to fix them one by one 😅
b
I was using v8 but there was video freezing issue with vp8 codec ( if you remember ), so i cannot use vp8 again.
is there anyone to reply ?
d
are you able to reproduce this with the example application? If VP8 is lagging something is definitely wrong. We have not observed any issues with VP8 publishing within our example app.
b
I have used vp8 on server side and that causes the issue of freezing.
and if i use h264 on server side then the freezing issue is solved but then this video lagging issue appeared.
d
What do you mean vp8 or h264 on the server side?
how is the video being published?
b
Primarily We used vp8 codec with livekit version 1.3.0 But we get issue in Iphone to Samsung Tab A8 calls when oriantation changed video get freeze. and get this error log AndroidVideoDecoder: Media decoder stop failed AndroidVideoDecoder: java.lang.IllegalStateException AndroidVideoDecoder: java.lang.IllegalStateException at android.media.MediaCodec.native_stop(Native Method) at android.media.MediaCodec.stop(MediaCodec.java:2338) at org.webrtc.MediaCodecWrapperFactoryImpl$MediaCodecWrapperImpl.stop(Unknown Source:2) at org.webrtc.AndroidVideoDecoder.releaseCodecOnOutputThread(Unknown Source:14) at org.webrtc.AndroidVideoDecoder.access$200(Unknown Source:0) at org.webrtc.AndroidVideoDecoder$1.run(Unknown Source:26) freeAllBuffers: 4 buffers were freed while being dequeued! AndroidVideoDecoder: deliverDecodedFrame failed After research on this error we get that error is due to video codec so we changed codec vp8 to H264 which is getting lag in video
