simulcast layers are additional to the original layer. if you dont’ want any, just pass in an empty array!
w
hmm interesting, how can we force 1080p quality for our users when they share their screen when simulcast is enabled? We want simulcast for cameras but not screen sharing
p
you cannot truly force it, e.g. if the user’s screen is smaller than 1080p, it won’t work. depending on how you publish the screen share track you always have access to
ScreenShareCaptureOptions
. E.g.
room.setScreenShareEnabled(true, options)
w
I see. What would be the best approach to ensure picture quality over frame-rate. Or is that impossible to force if simulcast is enabled? Our users are probably going to share screens containing mostly text.
d
You can try setting contentHint to
text
, this will tell the underlying encoder to optimize for resolution over framerate
w
we'll try set
contentHint
to text. We experience a lot of these things when we share screen on our devices even though all participants have fast internet connections. Could not find
contentHint
on
mediaStreamTrack
, but is this the same thing:
t.track?.mediaStreamTrack.applyConstraints({"contentHint": "text"});
d
that looks like content corruption.. and is an issue on the publisher side. what is the publisher's device and platform? this is the Flutter SDK right?
w
This occur when someone is swapping/moving windows around fast on the screen. We see it on multiple devices but mostly tested on pc/chrome. Yes this is flutter SDK.
Copy code
LocalTrackPublication<LocalTrack>? localTrackPublication =
          await room.localParticipant!.setScreenShareEnabled(
        true,
        captureScreenAudio: true,
      );
Copy code
Room(
      roomOptions: const RoomOptions(
        adaptiveStream: true,
        dynacast: true,
        defaultAudioCaptureOptions: AudioCaptureOptions(
          highPassFilter: true,
        ),
        defaultAudioPublishOptions: AudioPublishOptions(
          audioBitrate: AudioPreset.musicHighQuality,
        ),
        defaultAudioOutputOptions: AudioOutputOptions(speakerOn: true),
      ),
    );
