Hi there, do you have a plan to support dynamic pivot table like redash.io/help/user-guide/visualizations/pivot-table-visualizations ? It’s very useful for analysts and we don’t have to create hundreds of charts.

👋 Thanks for your message - someone from the Lightdash support team will get back to you asap. Feel free to add any additional context to the thread here in the meantime (screenshots, app version if you're self-hosting etc.).

Hi @Daisuke Taniwaki (dtaniwaki) 👋 We do support pivot tables when you're exploring your data through tables — you can find the docs on how to set that up here: docs.lightdash.com/references/chart-types/table#… We don't yet support pivoting on custom SQL in the SQL Runner, but there's a feature request open for that which I can can upvote for you. Could you share a bit more about your workflow? It'd be helpful to know whether the pivots in table explores cover what you need, or if there's something specific from the Redash-style pivot that's missing — that context would be great to add to the feature request.

I've upvoted issue #12031 for you! This issue has been requested by 3 other users. I'll notify everyone here as soon as it's fixed.

@Jess Hitchcock Thank you for your reply. I tried that feature and it works well in the chart editor. However, what I expected like the redash way is a dynamic pivot table on dashboards or chart view pages without going into the edit page because my coworkers of non-tech departments are not brave to click the edit button but they rather want to manipulate the pivot on their landing dashboard page.

Hey Daisuke, hopping in for Jess here - thanks for clarifying how your end users would benefit from this - makes sense! What you're describing isn't supported yet, but I've logged your specific workflow as a feature request here - you'll get notified if it moves forward. No timeline on it yet, but your context is captured. In the meantime, the best workaround is to pre-build separate pivoted charts for the most common slices your team needs and lay them out on a single dashboard. Not as flexible as a live pivot, but it keeps things accessible without requiring anyone to go into edit mode.

I've upvoted issue #25513 for you! This issue has been requested by 1 other user. I'll notify everyone here as soon as it's fixed.

@Tori Whaley Thanks a lot!

Hi @Daisuke Taniwaki (dtaniwaki) - not sure what your deployment config looks like, but wanted to mention I built something very similar to what you're describing using data apps as code. It's an interactive pivot table that runs as a chart type. Viewers get the pivot controls right on the dashboard tile w/o edit mode needed: • drag any field from the chart's query between Rows / Columns / Values • change aggregations, add filters, sort, collapse groups, swap axes, toggle totals • rename fields and format dates/numbers on the fly Viewer changes are per-session, so the layout the analyst saved always comes back on reload. Analysts can author a default arrangement per chart (how-to is in the
INSTALL.md
inside the zip).

Yo @patrickryanmorris23 this is sick!! 🔥 and precisely what the data app visualizations are meant for! @Daisuke Taniwaki (dtaniwaki) these apps allow you to create custom charts templates from a prompt that your users can use when building out in the chart explorer. I'm not sure if you've tried the data apps features (or if we've enabled it for you). If you're curious to try this as a solution you're more than welcome to test it out. Data apps are still in beta 😎 📚 Docs on data app visualizations here

Looks great! However, I use self-hosted lightdash with our own Athena fixes, and the data app seems only for the enterprises 😢

@Daisuke Taniwaki (dtaniwaki) at the moment data apps are in beta and available to any customers who want to try it out! We plan to test this for several more months, and we'll give you ample notice when we plan to make it a GA/paid feature. Let me know if you want to test out data apps!

I definitely want to try it.

Hello Taniwaki-san! How are you? I’m curious if you’re trying out Lightdash for personal or commercial reasons?
d
Hi Ian, I run the self-hosted Lightdash with my custom improvements for my company.

I understand - we can provide you with a License Key on a trial basis so that you can try out the Data Apps feature? To continue using beyond trial we would need to come to an Enterprise agreement. Happy to talk about what that would look like!
