Good morning!  I am trying to convince my employer that Kotlin is a viable language to use on the JVM when working in a SOA or microservices environment.  If you can, can you share your if your companies are using it in that same environment please?  I think the biggest sticking point now is not technological, but rather the availability of developers in the region.

My organization has around forty developers in St. Louis proficient in Kotlin — using it both for backend and Android applications. We have more across the entire organization, but I scoped it to the local area.

I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir, but the <https://kotlinlang.org/docs/java-interop.html|Java interop> is fantastic, and if you are truly building microservices, you have a great opportunity to introduce it on a small scale and kick the tires. Embrace your inner polyglot!

Thanks!  We are moving toward micro services, and I’ve been pushing hard on the benefits Kotlin provides.  Especially if we end up moving toward a reactive architecture.  The fear now is that they’ll get too far ahead of what the local market will support, and be stuck with something they can’t support.  I think hearing that medium to large sized organizations are using it will alleviate those fears.
