Hey everyone; :wave: How’s the Kotlin scene in NZ? Are there many folks using it on the server, or is it all Android? :laughing:

Just android for me too, I'd like to give ktor a try but haven't found a reason. A hello world is about as far as I've got server wise.

I’ve been working on a project based on Ktor recently. Has been a pretty good experience so far.

Another lockdown here in Auckland. Hope all the Auckland Kotliners are coping!

<@U2CSHP1HA> :confused: Yes... This is very frustrating. What do you think of the constant lockdowns? Has it been affecting you? I live in the South Island so they have not been affecting me as much. Most of the time I am at home anyways on my computer :sweat_smile:

I just hope that this outbreak is contained and we don’t have to do level 3 beyond this week. I feel really bad for the businesses and people financially affected mostly.

Also it’s been a while since the last big lockdown, I suspect we got a bit too cosy. With the latest incident, I think we let it run away from us in terms of managing the contacts and failing to get people to isolate properly. I think someone dropped the ball there.

<@U2CSHP1HA> Yes... This is very frustrating when people do not track and trace with the app. We ought to stay vigilant.

I come from the South Island too. Lockdown can be bad or good. It is level 2 in Ack and have a great week!

Hi all :wave: I'm Adam, and I'm visiting New Zealand for two months. I'm travelling from top to bottom by bicycle, and I thought it'd be fun to meet up with any Kotlin devs who are on my route! Let's go for a drink or grab something to eat? I will also happily lend my services, be that rubber ducking or my speciality: fixing Gradle builds.

Welcome to NZ. As a fellow cyclist, I hope you enjoy your ride. Cape Reinga to the Bluff is on my bucket list as a ride but I would do it on a recumbent trike these days.

I am retired so I am not really keeping up with what is happening in the Kotlin space in NZ. I have also become provincial as I have moved to Whangarei. You might pass through here on your way north and south.

I would be happy to meet up if you wished and maybe even cycle a way with you.

hey David :wave: Sure, I can say a bit about myself. I've been a Kotlin dev for about 5 years, mostly on backend stuff. I contribute to open source quite a lot on GitHub (my username is aSemy). My main claims to fame are rewriting the <https://github.com/adamko-dev/dokkatoo|Dokka> Gradle plugin to be idiomatic, adding <https://github.com/Kotlin/kotlinx.serialization/blob/v1.6.0/CHANGELOG.md#json-unquoted-literals|raw json/BigDecimal support to Kotlinx Serialization>, and <https://github.com/krzema12/snakeyaml-engine-kmp|converting> SnakeYAML to Kotlin Multiplatform.

I've never given a talk, and I don't really have time to prepare one, but I'm certainly interested in a meet up! I tried looking on <http://meetup.com|meetup.com> but I couldn't see anything upcoming. Do you know if there's an agenda I can look at?
