hi all, I have question around the grants programme. the application form talks about private individuals and in the info box states "for example, the copyright on the project should be owned by the individuals, not a business". with all my open source projects i copyright them under my own personal business; i am the sole owner with no employees. my poor accounts (which are publicly available) certainly demonstrate the money i earn through apps i've written as an indie developer and through medium articles isn't enough for anyone to live off 🤣 of course I could change the copyright to my personal name, however, part of the reason to keep it under my personal business is things like limited liability - i'm not purposely or maliciously writing bad software (at least not knowingly) but if someone did want to sue for whatever reason i am much more personally protected because of the limited liability of using a limited company. the other side is financial... any earnings are taxed a lot less through my personal business than if the money went straight into my personal bank account - from an open source project point of view this means things like github sponsorship - not that ppl sponsor open source (although i have one active sponsor of $5/month - this feels like a win though, lol). this also means any grants from the foundation would also be taxed a lot less and go further than being paid to me as an individual. so of course the question is, what does this mean for applying for grants? as an indie developer who puts everything under his personal business am I automatically rejected from the grants programme?

Just a question regarding the funding aspect. Is that a fixed amount or a variable depending on the project and how big impact it has of the community? And is that information publicly available?

Just curious, is there a rough ETA when we'll get an update on which projects were chosen by the Grants program?

This is my personal opinion, and others may want to chime in if they think differently, but I think the grant program announcement lost an opportunity to highlight other open source projects, even if they were just honorable mentions.

I submitted a proposal but I didn’t get any response from the Kotlin Foundation, either before or after the announcement of the winners. Did anyone else receive anything?

Hi Kotlin Foundation Folks! We currently heavily use a library that originated as an early jetbrains backed library which the original author (jetbrains staff) no longer works on for several years. We have submitted over a dozen pull requests last I remember and have many dozens more improvements we've made to the library, but would like to continue the library with Jetbrains' support under the jetbrains package if possible, for both continuity and the broader community openness so others would be welcome to jump in with us. We do not require any funding and are happy to take over the library, but would love it if someone from jetbrains could give their opinion on the best way forward. Please feel free to message me anytime!

Hi @Alina Dolgikh [JB] @Ksenia Shneyveys @hhariri! I'm planning Kotlinconf travel for the Gradle Build Tool team. As we have a number of foundation officials, I would like to double-check whether the Kotlin Foundation plans any events/meetings before or after the conference days. Is there something planned/considered?

We have two libraries which are direct competitors to CMP and Ktor Server, respectively. They have enough advantages and differences that we are still pursuing them, but given that success with them would create ecosystem splits with official JetBrains libraries, would these libraries be unlikely candidates for the grants? The preparation work I would like to put in before applying for the grant is significant and if there's no shot at it, I don't want to mess up timelines I have for other projects.

We're applying for grants on several projects. We would really like funding if at all possible - we're not a big team (~10 devs and no money-making internal products) and time spent on the open source publication (docs, tutorials) is difficult to monetarily justify.
For corporate backed-projects: Would you like to opt-out of the monetary aspect of the grant?
The monetary award associated with a grants is intended to support individual developers and organizations whose continued work is dependent on outside funding. It is fine for corporate-backed projects or projects with stable sources of funding to apply for a grant, but please consider opting-out of the monetary aspect.
"Stable" is a strong word for us. However, if we couldn't get money but COULD get any help with publicity, we'd happy take it. If I tick this box, are we more likely to be considered for this? Is there an "if possible" option so to speak?

Also, if we aren't accepted, will we at least get some feedback?

@etolstoy Sorry to ping you, but I'm not sure who's supposed to answer questions in this channel and it seems weirdly quiet. I'm taking a blind guess on who to ping given that you're the creator of the channel - sorry if you're not the right person. The deadline for the grant program is coming up, I'd really like some of my questions answered soon. Who is supposed to answer questions here?
