Should we write a proposal even if we're going to work on a predetermined project?? I'm confused and it's my first time

For the Build Server Protocol Project Task one asks applicants to write Gradle plugin How do we represent that in the Proposal should we directly include the code in proposal or link the Github repository with the output screenshots in the readme? If anyone can help me! thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm ternbusty, a master's student at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. I've been working with server-side Kotlin for a few years now, and I'm interested in the Kotlin Language Server (LSP). If possible, I’d love to contribute to enhancing Kotlin’s integration and accessibility across a wide range of development environments.

Applications are now closed! A huge thank you to everyone who submitted a proposal - we received 123 proposals this year! 🎉 We are now starting the review process. Mentors might be reaching out to you with questions or clarifications, so please keep an eye on your email. Thanks again! kodee loving

Hi, GSoC community! kodee welcoming Thanks to all of you for your interest, ideas, and submissions! We received a record number of proposals - 123 this year, and their quality and creativity made it tough to select the final list. After careful review, our mentors and GSoC organizers have selected 8 proposals to move forward this summer. Thanks again to everyone who contributed, stay tuned for the progress updates!

Congrats again to all accepted contributors! I plan to do the first office hours next week for the teams, Gradle or not, the timing poll is here. The goal is to discuss community bonding and help teams to get started. It is totally optional and you can ask everything on Slack, but the office hours are also a goo thing to join if you participate in GSoC for the first time. Meeting poll - https://calendly.com/d/cndn-jt4-29x/gsoc-2025-in-kotlin-foundation-office-hours.

Hello Why was the build server protocol not selected in final proposals? Like you decided not to move forward with the idea or were the proposals not proper?

@alaje @Jakub Chrzanowski @Ksenia Shneyveys Please let me know what channel you'd like to use for https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/programs/2025/projects/lJoAo8B7 . You're of course welcome to have a dedicated channel for the plugin in the Gradle Community Slack, but I can totally understand if you want to proceed on this Slack

@Ksenia Shneyveys just in case, do we have a Kotlin Foundation slides template somewhere? I'd like to put together a few slides for today's kickoff, mostly about community bonding & expectations (and will run them by you, too).

I want to join the team on some of the projects. I have also been put as a contributor, but I have no project. Furthermore, I would like to be able to work on one of the selected projects. For me, all the projects are interesting, especially those that have won, so let me know who might be interested in having help on the project.

Hi all! During the mid-term evaluations, we will do a live stream to report on the projects and their progress. Each contributor will have 10 minutes to present on the project (summary, delivered changes, plans for the next phase + mainly live demos), and then we will have 5 minutes for Q&A and mentor feedback. While this presentation is not mandatory (discuss it with your mentors), everyone is welcome to join. Each contributor is welcome to either present live or submit a prerecorded video, and we would love to have mentors on the call, too. Please vote for the stream time slots here - https://calendly.com/d/cv2n-htr-px9/gsoc-2025-kotlin-fndn-project-demos-mid-term-eval

Hi all. If you are concerned by this post, nothing changes for Google Summer of Code as of now. Org administration and mentoring remain my priorities, and unless there's a garden leave or a similar situation outside my control, I will continue delivering on my responsibilities in the Kotlin Foundation GSoC. This week is rather an exception as I had a lot of unplanned administrative things in parallel with the JCrete conference. I will be back to normal starting from Tuesday.

By the way, we had a session about mentorship programs at JCrete. Nothing really unique there, mostly experience sharing and discussions about the impact of AI on education and on contributors, as well as their internship perspectives. It is kind of a consensus that using AI first negatively impacts performance and learning for mentees regardless of how talented they are and whether they have initial knowledge of the domain. TL;DR: dear contributors, please use AI carefully and prioritize fundamental learning. AI remains a great tool for increasing your productivity afterwards

Hello everyone, i would love to collaborate to kotlin by writing code and to partecipate as a collaborator in gsoc 2026. I'm a computer engineering student with good knowledge about objects oriented programming (polymorphism, generics, reflection, collections, unit testing etc in java language) and about kotlin's most specific topics (lambdas, lambdas with receiver, nullability, inline functions, class modifiers, operators overloading, java-kotlin conversion). I have no experience in open-source but I would love to start collaborating as soon as possible. I hope you can mentor me into getting started. Thank you in advance!

Shoutout to @alaje for a super solid GSoC! She added Reporting + Problems API to IntelliJ Platform Gradle Plugin, and her Worker API deep‑dive showed the real bottleneck is Gradle dependency resolution—so we can stop chasing parallelism. Reporting for
    VerifyPluginTask
is done and ready once IPV supports multiple output dirs. Loved the independent work, sharp analysis, and crisp summaries. 🎉
