Hi from Melbourne. Are there many here, from Australia, using Kotlin for backend work? I'm looking for a new contract, and 98% of the Kotlin roles are android. I'm not too keen about the thought of going back to Java exclusively.

Good afternoon from Greensborough @Tom Haywood! I work at Lexicon Digital in Melbourne and we count Kotlin highly among our list of recommended technologies to serve our clients.

This definitely means we are using it for back-end work as well as Android projects.

In fact, we've even deployed Kotlin Multiplatform in production! (Kotlin/Native on iOS)

We're also hiring... so if you're keen after having a look at Lexicon's webpage, and asking me any questions you might have, feel free to slide over a CV.

Hello all! Hobby programmer from Central NSW. Discovered Kotlin/TornadoFX recently, and I think it will futureproof and streamline development of software tools I'm dreaming up! Cheers. 🤠🖥️

Hey @Kebbin 👋 Melburnian Kotliner here. TornadoFX is nice - thought there's a new kid on the block in Compose for Desktop, you might want to give that a whirl too 👍. Let us know if you have any Q's!

G'day @darkmoon_uk! Thanks for the welcome, and the tip on Compose! I'll look it up. I have a lot of questions, but I want to try and be patient and polite about it! 😆 Cheers!

@darkmoon_uk Hello again! Do you use TornadoFX, or Compose now? I've put a question on the TFX thread about 3D stuff and serialisation.

I've switched my Desktop efforts to Compose.

Read your post on TFX channel. I don't have experience of 3D in TFX, nor Compose, but did use some 3D rendering recently in an Android App, using Google 's Filament engine.

That worked well; high quality engine. I think it can be integrated with either TFX or Compose.

As for serializing components; I'm not too sure what you mean? At face value that sounds something like Androids XML view format.

Ok! I'll have to have a closer look at it. Thanks for the tip in the Filament engine, I'll look it up. I'll need to serialise model railway layout components displayed in the plan diagram, to save the layout for future sessions in the program. I'm also looking to create automation script files from objects displayed on the layout screen as well.

Company: Ferocia Geo: Melbourne, AU Head Office: Melbourne Level: Mid - Senior WFH: Hybrid Type: Full Time If you are a passionate software engineer (with all levels of experience) that wants to join established teams working on building Australia’s fastest-growing digital bank, Up, then we want to hear from you! Ferocia is a technology company that is proudly part of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group (acquired in 2021). We have a hybrid work culture where people can attend the Ferocia office as much or as little as it makes sense for them. We are currently only hiring in Melbourne or adjacent areas as we still value physically getting together at least a half-dozen times per year. We now build two products - Up and Bendigo Bank’s Internet Banking platform. 🤗 At Ferocia everyone gets: ✅ The standard four weeks of annual leave ✅ Christmas Break - The office closes down for a couple of weeks over the Christmas break (think of it as a loooooooong weekend). ✅ We have a generous parental leave policy ✅ And finally, we are extremely friendly to flexible working arrangements. Does this sort of thing sound exciting to you? Then join us at our upcoming online hiring event! This session with Ferocia’s Engineering Manager, Adel Smee, is where you’ll get a chance to find out about the company, the engineering culture, and the role(s) we’re hiring for. There’ll also be a Q&A session, where you can literally ask Adel anything. 🤔 Find out what things you could be working on, how the team builds and deploy things, what tech they use, and what the day-to-day will actually be like. We’re trying something new and flipping things around a bit. Don’t just read a boring old job ad, join our hiring webinar and meet the actual person you’ll be working with WHERE 📍We have an upcoming online hiring webinar that we would love for you to be part of! We will be joined by Ferocia’s Engineering Manager, Adel Smee. WHEN 🗓️ August 10, 2022, 12 PM - 1 PM HOW 🤔 To learn more and register, check out this Eventbrite link: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/recruiting-at-ferocia-tickets-394831440467
