I'm working on moving my self hosted, standalone, instance of greptime to a new server, and I am moving the data from a local fs folder to an s3 compatible storage location. Right now I'm running the data export cli command to a local directory (well, actually a folder on an nfs volume.) After starting that, i was poking around and I see the data export command can export to s3 as well. Does that export the data to s3 into the format greptime would set up when I run the import data command? Or is it just going to store the data in s3 like it is storing it in my directory? As in, could I save time by exporting to s3 instead of my nfs directory?

Hi, exporting data into S3 is just for backup. The format is different from the data format in running GreptimeDB. So you still have to import the backup data into the new server.

That's what I thought it was. Thanks for confirming. What effects the speed of an export? I'm exporting one table where the greptime_data/db/data/greptime/<tablename> directory is around 27G. My export of just that table is at 11G after running a good part of the afternoon and all night.

We’ll look into it. Thanks.
