2 things related to splitting branches: 1. the docs for splitting a branch into multiple branches doesn't mention
--by-file
(https://graphite.com/docs/squash-fold-split#split-a-branch-into-multiple-branches) 2. not sure if i'm using it wrong, but the
--by-file
option seems to not accept multiple file paths?

Just to you or others on your team also? - Is this a regression? Is the problem new? - If you're having an issue with the CLI, please send us debug logs using
gt feedback --with-debug-context <any message>

ah for the 2nd thing, i did
gt feedback --with-debug-context
and will reply to that email instead

Hey Ally, got the CLI logs! thanks. Good callout re the missing example of by file in that link you shared, i will make sure that gets updated! We do note the
--by-file
in the CLI reference here https://graphite.com/docs/command-reference#gt-split
a
thanks! yea i saw
--by-file
in the CLI help in my terminal, and i assumed the web command reference was generated from the same thing
p
just took a look and seems like
gt split -f <pathspec> -f <pathspec>”
  should help you here
a
that doesn't work either 😕
Copy code
~/repos/lawy2 (recover-ingest) gt split -f apps/e2e/tests/utils.ts -f apps/lawy/components/documents/update-document-form.tsx

Exited early: no new branches created. You are still on recover-ingest.
ERROR: No files match the provided pathspecs: apps/e2e/tests/utils.ts, apps/lawy/components/documents/update-document-form.tsx
~/repos/lawy2 (recover-ingest) ls -l apps/e2e/tests/utils.ts apps/lawy/components/documents/update-document-form.tsx
-rw-r--r-- 1 alyssa.summers staff 21822 Dec 16 08:21 apps/e2e/tests/utils.ts
-rw-r--r-- 1 alyssa.summers staff 20115 Dec 16 08:20 apps/lawy/components/documents/update-document-form.tsx

This seems to have worked for me. The fact your error says no files match indicates something wrong with the paths maybe
a
what version are you running locally? i'm on
1.7.11
which i believe is latest stable? the paths are fine since i showed the output of
ls
after running
gt split
from the same directory afterwards?
p
this was 1.7.10 though it should be the same for the sake of this functionality. i just upgraded to 1.7.12 latest stable and it too is working fine. I would double check your working directory vs the path you are specifying maybe.
