Hmm, sorry  that you're running into this, even if there is some incompatibility, we should have better error messaging around that.  It looks like based on this stack trace that node is throwing before reaching Graphite code though.

Anyway, seconding the above, what is your `node --version`?  And one other thing to try might be installing `@withgraphite/graphite-cli@latest`, sometimes `npm` doesn't install the most recent version.

You could also try `brew` on linux

Node version == 12.22.9
NPM == 8.5.1

Will attempt brew and report back.

I just realized that those are very, very old versions of Node. So, apparently the apt repo for it is not up to date at all. Updating the version to modern Node fixed it.
