(what i wanted was a separate branch for commit X, before "branch" and after "parent") i worked around it by creating a branch on X manually, and then restacking "branch" onto X. now the commit hash is shown correctly in

gt branch split

Hmm strage - thanks for flagging! Will see if we can repro and will plan to fix during our CLI changes this quarter :))
