last time I checked, if I enable that, then Graphite doesn't pick up that the branch was merged

hmm, that is not expected behavior — we have this setting enabled and don't see that, as well as some of our other users

I will give it another try

Just did a series of merges with that setting on, followed by a

gt rs -r

and got prompted to remove the 3 branches locally
