There’s some `afterEvaluate` going on for the `kotlin-dsl` Kotlin settings (<https://github.com/gradle/gradle/blob/master/subprojects/kotlin-dsl-plugins/src/main/kotlin/org/gradle/kotlin/dsl/plugins/dsl/KotlinDslCompilerPlugins.kt#L43|here>); you may need to wrap your settings in afterEvaluate as well, to run after that one.

Thanks, this does work in the Gradle Kotlin dsl plugin, but any chance to overwrite the Kotlin version and its options used by Gradle itself?

Okay, I don't think so. They are hardcoded here: <https://github.com/gradle/gradle/blob/da59fbd0db73df45e2c59b2aca7cda83d62bd89f/subprojects/kotlin-dsl/src/main/kotlin/org/gradle/kotlin/dsl/KotlinDslStandaloneScriptCompilationConfiguration.kt#L37>

Maybe adding `-Xskip-prerelease-check` would be enough.
