hm. my existing project does use kapt. maybe thats it? ill try to add kapt to the one with 8 that works and see what that gives me

Isn't there a link in the error message somewhere that tells you what to do?

there was a jdk 17 notice in the upgrade wizard but the link in the notice went to a broken page (which i already reported on issuetracker)

Ah, what version of Kotlin are you using?

but yeah. everything "works" now. its just the fact that im confused why one project needed VERSION_17 and the new project i generated was fine with generating 1_8
