Anyone know how to math this correctly? I'm looking to take a point (e.g. mouse pointer in screen space) and project it into a 3d transformed plane (which is represented as a 3d matrix)?

The FoC Berlin startup I work for who has a IUD for a logo is congratulated by the Nasdaq! Clojure fans might recognise some of our customers names. BTW I switch from working in dev tools (ex-Firebase) to Fintech 3 years ago and it is so much better appreciated for pushing the envelope of what computation is and providing data augmented programming. Spreadsheets were developed for accounting, I don't think thats an accident... finance people are inherently more FoC friendly is what I have realised eventually. They dislike programming but love quantification, understanding and insights. They gravitate for the bicycle of the mind use-case over technical details, and they are willing to pay for things that ROI (unlike developers). Unfortunately they are much more secretive so I never really get to share details on the product :(

I did some vibe coding with Cursor and it got stuck in a loop of writing a buggy shell script, running it, looking at the output (unchanged because bugs), going "hmm let's fix that", then writing the exact same shell script.

I feel like I saw a really good literature review "state of the world" wrt visual/graphical programming a while back (probably here, though could have been elsewhere) but apparently didn't save the link and can't find it again... So, anyone have any favorites or good pointers for something like that?

🥱 Strings are just arrays of numbers. 🧐 Numbers are just arrays of booleans with a sufficiently small word size.

Is coding/programming/computering/beepbooping/funking of corn a hobby or a job to you? Or both? It's both for me and I'm increasingly having the two diverge. "Work" coding and "home" coding feel like two entirely different worlds.

I was at programming 2025 and heard a developer struggling with glitching in reactive systems. Made me dig deeper into Observable reactivity model. I sometimes see glitching but its when I manually short circuit the dataflow graph. The actual engine is glitch free even when you put async tasks in the middle. I've properly tested it now! https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25139257/terminology-what-is-a-glitch-in-functional-reactive-programming-rx

Another difference is that your unit of code is the cell, whereas the unit of code in PLs is the function (plus a few others). Combinations of cells can be represented by nodes and wires. Combinations of functions are a lot more diverse, e.g. using higher-order functions.

Does anyone know of a nice accessible survey of the state of reactive programming today, ideally with a focus on the different flavors/features and what kind of patterns they enable?

Job posting — Ink & Switch is looking for someone to work on Automerge. It's something like a TypeScript + DevRel role, so if that sounds like you and you want to come work with a small group of playful researchers & engineers (and me), we'd love to have you!

I was considering posting about a (remote) job opening at my company for a C#/TypeScript developer, but Ivan's company is honestly, probably, superior. I used to be active here at FoC over four years ago, but then I got a job, and then the cofounder left, and I felt it necessary to build the product by myself. That product is basically "done" now, except not really, because every new customer wants new features. I really miss working working on programming-language design (see loyc.net) and my developer tools such as SyncLib, but right now I need a helping hand to (1) get more people buying our product and (2) help me hire more developers so that I (or we) can quit this job in 12 months or so. Right now we only have two developers, and the CEO wants to hire literally every person we interview, as he hates putting time into the hiring process. I'm pushing back on that because I only want certain kinds of people - probably the kinds of proactive people who would hang out in the communities I like, such as FoC, EA, ACX/SSC and LW. So for those in need of a paycheck, maybe consider working with me? Some personal characteristics: as an EA I care deeply about the future (fighting global poverty but also mitigating global risks―the latter being severe these days); I don't suffer fools and prefer to be blunt (which creates friction with the CEO, who is nontechnical and very sensitive to tone); I'm unconventional and can't stand people who like doing things the "standard way" just because "it's a standard" without being able to defend the pros and acknowledge the cons; I don't care for smalltalk (my idea of smalltalk is discussing optionally persistent data structures, or plausible global catastrophe scenarios); and I'm a stickler for good communication (detail, precision, accuracy, reasonableness, and ambiguity avoidance). Our product serves three different submarkets and has 125,000 lines of code (excluding tests, blank lines and generated code, but including 10,000 lines of comments, and yes, we should probably have a lot more comments). I mention this because I think typical developers would've written 500,000 lines to accomplish the same stuff. Here are my Principles of Programming. If you think about programming in a similar way, we should get along great!
