I'm having my in laws and parents 😂

Don’t buy any processed foods and get your own chicken 🙂 on a more serious note, I have been trying out different non-processed food recipes for a few weeks in preparation for Pesach. So instead of buying french fries, I make my own, etc…

A few years ago we bought bags of Pesach chicken nuggets and french fries to use for suppers, not going that again

Pesach cereals futures are currently trading about where gold is 💸

wow never thought I'd be grateful for my husband's minhag not to use processed stuff on pesach... somehow pesach ends up being crazy expensive anyway 🙄
m
yeah we don’t use processed stuff at all either but that doesn’t stop it from being expensive. Though I did just find costco had shmurah matzah for 17 bucks instead of my Rabbi selling it for 38
I also just learned that not using processed foods isn’t only a chabad thing 🙂 thanks guys!

when we first started tracking our budget we were like, ok X is what we spend on a normal month. Except for pesach and the month before. And sukkos and the month before. And the two summer months, plus the month before if someone is going to sleepaway camp. Plus December, cuz winter break. And then we were like um... is a month "normal" if there's only like 3 of them? lol

@thankful-angle-58448 couldn't agree more. This thought has been on my mind. How do you budget monthly and they year if you have only 3 " normal" months.
m
that is exactly what YNAB fixes 🙂 every known expense can become a monthly expense
I pay for my esrog every month

The way I look at budgeting monthly is the regular monthly is one thing and holidays are separate. They do NOT get included in the monthly budget. It makes the monthly shopping much clearer to me. So when pesach comes around I do my regular shopping and then I check to see what we have set aside for the holiday.
This might change now that I have ynab
m
they way i look at it is every month you have a budget that is future looking. for example, a sheitel budget is a monthly charge that might be 50$ a month charge so you are buying a new 3k sheitel every 5 years. Basically, every months budget includes all your known future plans spread out and then you can ensure you are being intentional about your current expenses.

I've never used ynab I looked at it once and it looked very not user friendly. Do you recommend it over mint @mysterious-tomato-10057?
r
I do
m
I don’t recommend it over mint, i recommend it in addition to mint because they accomplish completely separate goals
let me find my message about it

We don’t use processed foods and I don’t think that saves money. A 32 ox bottle of lemon juice is $2 or so and it is way more than that in juicing lemons.

I was planning on winning the lottery but these are also some good ideas 😁
