started using codex with ynab-cli to help manage my budget. Codex has a pretty generous free tier on free chatgpt (albeit with 5.2) it can help with reconciling, figuring out how to divy your RTA, categorizing, etc.
g
that is genius
here I've been having codex build me tools that I then use. I like yours better. Now we need to make an israeli-bank-scrapers CLI πŸ˜„
n
@great-appointment-99249 I was about to ask why you deleted your profile pic - then I realized which slack this is πŸ˜‚
r
Someone made an mcp already

Anyone willing to move their their work on this to the frum finance community? I am hoping to start with AI assistant categorization as a service for the community. Then you won’t need to worry about free tier πŸ™‚
We already have the YNAB integration and data, just need the AI bit. I am starting doing it with openclaw but we need to productionize this. We already have two volunteers on this project, looking for more
If you can donate even a couple hours a month, please join #C0AL8UBTC7M
We can pay you in tokens πŸ™‚

I'm not yet ready for openclaw, but I have a local whatsapp bot running on my local machine. When we make a purchase we upload the receipt and it uses gemini to process it, get the payee, amount, credit card used, etc., and it sends it to a queue that I review and approve to send to ynab
the receipt gets uploaded to drive and added to the memo
m
would be a great start towards productionizing that!
a
I would want to get involved in this project as well, I was just discussing how I need a better way to process and store receipts , can you share your repo and workflow?
m
Anyone can request github access here and i'll buy you a license to the org. Just need a commitment of at least 5 hours a month https://slack.com/shortcuts/Ft08DJR4DCSV/5a4de1b0a21eedd9f873a43326f22cf9

@rapid-account-67960 can you share the basics of setting up the WhatsApp bot?
Are you using your regular Whatsapp account with a local script scraping the browser?
r
using whatsapp-web.js
with my regular whatsapp account (cause I don't have another number)
m
Why not just use nanoclaw
g
what are the odds of getting your account banned that way? They try as hard as they can to crack down on automation.
I know they say
Whatsapp-web.js connects to an official version of WhatsApp Web under the hood, reducing ban risks.
but they also say
[!IMPORTANT] It is not guaranteed you will not be blocked by using this method. WhatsApp does not allow bots or unofficial clients on their platform, so this shouldn't be considered totally safe.
r
it's pretty low actually, especially if you don't do anything spammy
g
That's good to know
r
Why not just use nanoclaw
Best harness, best model. NanoClaw runs on the Claude Agent SDK
this is why
m
Okay with not use openclaw with native WhatsApp integration?
r
cause I don't want to bother setting up openclaw
m
For this use case I don't see how setup would be complicated
r
maybe, but it always wasn't super complicated to set up with wwweb.js and I just vibe coded this for my own itch...
g
Which version of the YNAB CLI are you using? Codex tells me that there is a Python one and an NPM one. It says the Python one can't be installed on Windows, and the NPM one is very old, unmaintained, and very limited.
r
i'm using the npm one...seems to work for me, and it has a raw api mode, so it's not limited to anything
also, why would you be using windoze for anything? use wsl
a
How does using it with your regular account affect message read indicators?
r
good question...as of now it only "reads" one group
a
Ahh, so you can set it to only listen on one chat, that works
interesting
m
Nice find!
a
Thanks for the inspiration, this was fun to build

r
yes...super easy to do this stuff in 2026
g
I tried this once with a receipt and it totally messed it up 🀷
r
I bet that was in like 2023
g
nah, within the past year I think. After the first time that you mentioned it
r
which model? even the old gemini models were pretty good at it
g
I think the problem is that most receipts just arent that clear, at least not the one that I tried
m
@adamant-mouse-41045 you made your own or you used the link you sent?
a
Vibe coded from scratch

Did not do the ynab integration part
m
Oh that's the part I'm curious about. I really want to offer this as a service for everyone.
Well I guess I'm curious about both.
a
We should crowd source this into this slack and leverage the data to compare grocery prices
m
Yes that's already on our roadmap
r
what service did you want to offer specifically?
m
The Frum Finance app already links to people's YNABs, so we already have the integration point and are an official partner with YNAB as an integration partner. Using this we already offer crowdsourced budget comparisons via our app. I would like a way for people to have some sort of AI to help them categorize everything, from being able to upload receipts to it or even one day viewing your Amazon transactions and suggesting categorizations for your uncategorized transactions. On top of that it can ping you when you have new transactions and you can talk to it about categorizing As a follow on to this, we can add grocery crowdsourced tracking to the existing YNAB crowdsourced data system we built.
@handsome-honey-55463 message the app a receipt, have it categorize. Maybe even message it from WhatsApp.
r
would you give openclaw the credentials to your bank/credit card account so it could look for new transactions?
m
no
you are kidding right?
r
i'm just second guessing myself because
On top of that it can ping you when you have new transactions and you can talk to it about categorizing
how would you do this?
m
we have ynab integration... we can ping you when you get new transactions...
we don't use openclaw for anything
that is a simple sync job
well i use openclaw personally but nothing for the services we offer
r
ah...so only for the lucky americans who can do that
m
no, even non americans that have used any of the other solutions to link ynab to their banks. like they might be using openclaw to add transactions automatically πŸ˜›
g
@rapid-account-67960 you don't have an cron job updating ynab via israeli-bank-scrapers?
I mean I dont, but it's something I'll probably integrate at some point
r
I don't at the moment
