What is a good estimate of how much a post seminary girl beis yaakov Lakewood (leaning towards higher end balebatish) would typically spend on clothes and accessories in a year? I'm trying to budget for this and need a good idea of what to expect...

I feel like the answer would be correlated to how much she currently spends

Hot take: if she has a job & is living at home & is post-sem, she should pay for her own clothing and accessories

You are assuming the poster isn’t a post-sem girl, i am assuming they are.
I agree a post-sem girl should definitely pay for their own clothing… unless the parents have a 99% monte carlo, then die with zero philosophy can take over

We're working on her paying for own stuff but we need to help her set up a budget and subsidize it accordingly... We also have no history of focused on her past expenses 😔

I think if she went to sem, she already has a baseline wardrobe. Look at how much she spent on these in HS as a lower bound, and multiply by 2 (she'll need some simcha outfits, maybe need to get some work clothes) as an upper bound, for how much she may be spending annually

Get her setup with frum. Finance and YNAB!
s
Without more info I think it's fair to assume she'll spend in line with how she was brought up and has been spending until now, like what @incalculable-toothbrush-90475 said

Thanks for all the advice etc but does anyone have any real numbers??
m
Some girls are comfortable thrifting at good will, some grew up with designer brands, i imagine people will really struggle to know what your daughter wears… so what do you want? the average? the mean? the mode? none of those would represent your daughter…
s
Mean this 100% seriously - probably somewhere between $1500 and $30,000 dollars

In some circles, 30k is just one dress!

What about starting from the other direction? How much money is available to spend on clothing?

It looks like this is going to be much harder than I thought... Thanks all for your candid observations though!

If living in Lakewood, she (or her mother) might have a decent idea of what a typical outfit would cost for shabbos, weekday, etc based on their previous shopping experiences in the stores they usually go to. I think you can get a fair ballpark by sitting down with her and discussing how many outfits she thinks she needs. For example, if she thinks each full shabbos outfits will cost 150-200 each (say if she shops at stores like Brooklyn Southwest or other mid-to-lower price ranged stores), she can estimate how many she needs for summer, winter, and dating. That's at least a starting point for a budget discussion. Whereas if she's shopping at stores like Surelle or Vera & Goldie then she'd need to budget closer to 250-350 per full outfit (or maybe higher... I haven't been to either of those stores recently)
Do the same for work outfits (unfortunately won't be that much cheaper than shabbos, if she's shopping in the same stores) and shoes. Tack on an extra couple hundred for makeup

Thank you!

I imagine around 3K per season, depending on what she's doing. If she's teaching it may be more, if it's a random office job then it may be less. If it's her first year home, you/she may want to get a new coat, which can be 1K easily depending on where you/she usually shops
