I have a CC with cashback. The money doesn't seem to go anywhere. At the end of the statement, the amount I spent on the card exactly gets debited from my checking account. The reward amount just seems to be something showing on my statement. I assume at somepoint later it will get to me? But in the meantime, how do I deal with this. It's not spendable money so I can't do RTA, and it doesn't reduce my statement balance
g
Which card is it in particular?
t
You may have to select to apply it to your statement credit or cash back in your bank account. Cash back does not get automatically applied to anything.
r
it's an israeli credit card issued by Cal
I didn't see anything obvious that allowed me to choose what happens with the cashback, but I can look again
t
I can’t speak for Israeli cards but this is pretty standard with US cards
r
ok, it seems that the only thing I can do with it is get some kind of gift card...
t
That also makes sense
r
so I guess what I can do is make an account for this, and just add the cashbacks to that account, instead of CC
t
Personally I would look at it as if you found cash and use it to offset a different budget item. For example, if you can buy a gift card that goes toward grocery, just take away the $ amount you would get and apply it somewhere else. If you can get $20 in gift card at a grocery store, move $20 from your grocery budget to another category
r
well i suppose i would like to keep track of the balance somewhere in ynab? so I don't have to keep going to the website to see what it is
t
If you want. I would love at it like you found cash on the floor, would you put that in YNAB? You can do what you’re saying though as well.
r
the amounts are significantly more than that i'd find on the floor :)
but I hear that...I certainly don't need to track the money
t
lol even if I found $100 on the floor I wouldn’t put it into YNAB. I would use that for gas or something and move electronic money I had out there. Sounds like whatever you do is good though!
