We Stopped Eating Out for Three Months. The Result Was Interesting... In 2017 the Mecham family decided to live in Manhattan for three months to experience the city, soak up the food and culture, and just have fun doing something different. While they were there they chose to maximize their opportunity to eat out -- Jesse went back and counted over 140 different establishments during that 90 day stay!   After that experiment, Jesse and the family decided to try the complete opposite. No eating out for 90 days. The result? They didn't really care about it much,...

Never understood why I have to pay so that other people can watch me eating
s
I think you pay so that your kids can run around and destroy things in a public area.

I think the novelty of it is what makes it special. If eating out isn't special (for like an occasion, family, friends). If it doesn't make you happy, then don't do it. that's my logic

my issue is that this is like one of the first pieces of advice for being frugal that you'll read anywhere, like it's a chiddush...but it's not something I can implement to lower my bills cause we just don't eat out...

Every time I eat out I remember why it's been so long since the last time. When you're seated 2 feet away from another couple ... not fun.

My friends wife went to sem in Ofakim, and said there was a girl there who had never heard of the concept of a restaurant before 🤯 She couldn't wrap her head around it. "You go somewhere outside of your house to pay extra so you can eat food someone else made, together with a bunch of other people??? What's the point?"

"this is like one of the first pieces of advice for being frugal that you'll read anywhere" along with "You can save hundreds per month if you stop buying fancy Lattes every day!!! 💰 💰 💰 "
s
what are Lattes?
r
yeah...that's also high up on my list 🙂
g
new Frum.Finance financial plan. Start buying Lattes everyday, so that you can stop, and apparently magically become rich.

I actually tell people to keep buying the lattes, frugality and frupidity are very different, if your only luxury is your fancy coffee in the morning, then keep going, a few dollars a day to stay sane and happy and enjoy hashems world is worth it. But a family where one parent works and they have 20k debt should stop spending 500-2000 on a cleaning lady
g
I would go for a cleaning lady before a latte in a second
m
they aren't the same price

Whats a cleaning lady?
