also if my credit card only gets charged on the 15th do I still put my transaction in on the date it happened?

yes you basically pretend that it's a debit card and the money has been spent right away
if you need to live on the "float" (obviously not ideal) then you'd do this via the special category set up for that card
b
how does that work if its coming out of next months money if its after the 15th?
r
let's say I spend 1000 shekels on groceries on dec 31, so that goes against your dec budget, and it takes away 1000 from that envelope but since you spent in on a card, that puts 1000 into an envelope meant to pay off your card so basically, you're taking 1000 shekels out of your groceries envelope and putting it into the card's envelope now in january, the card company will want your money, so you open your card envelope and hand it over so in january when you pay the card you're not spending money allocated in january, but money rolled over from december
b
ohh okay. am i supposed to move it to a credit card category or just llist as a regular expense from my credit card. (its not set up as a cc its set up as a bank account because thats what it is). sorry if these questions are obvious -
r
if you set up your credit card as a credit card account (there was an option for that when you added the account), ynab handles this for you it automatically creates the special category, and automatically moves the money out when you mark the transaction in the CC account
b
oh okay. i didn't do that because it hought it worked differently in israel
thank you so much
can i add that now?
r
you can add it now, but you might have to do some math if you've done transactions in january already, cause you're gonna have to put in a starting balance plus all transactions done in january so far
b
ok
thank you so much
