how long is is supposed to take to do the initial setup of your budget?

Setting up your budget for the first time should take about 2-3 hours. After that, you only need to spend a few minutes each day or every couple of days to check in and make sure everything is on track. Once a month, you might spend about an hour to plan for the next month.

Depends how complex your families budget is but it say 3 hour is average. you can see how complex my families budget is, that certainly took longer.

also, one thing to keep in mind, is that YNAB is flexible. You can adjust things as you go along, and get a clearer picture, or as priorities change

It took me months to get both myself and my wife onboard with and actively using it. Just gotta keep pushing through and encourage others to do it as well!

it's easy enough to figure out your fixed monthly expenses, but digging out the "true expenses" takes some thought
and sometimes creativity

Ya it can take a while to migrate to YNAB
And figure out how to utilize all features efficiently

im bringing it over from an excel budget i used to use. i guess thats the issue.

If you have used other methods of budgeting, I would recommend importing previous transactions even for a test budget and figuring out your categories
