Anyone else use Monarch Money as opposed to YNAB?
m
That is a new one here. So far people seem to mostly use Mint, YNAB, and EveryDollar. Haven’t seen anyone mention monarch money. Excited to see what people say
s
i quickly dropped YNAB when I realized it didn’t sync with the CC i was using. but that was a while back.
m
maybe they do now
s
Monarch has a very inutuitive UI
m
from my googling it looks like its more about net worth and backwards analysis as opposed to budgeting
s
It’s really very much a budgeting tool. There is a monthly planning page where you input expected income and expenses, for all your categories, and then can compare actual vs. expected at the end of the month. No personal interest in pushing it, just wanted to propose it as an alternative that is really simple to use
m
Sorry I wasn't asking to convince you to switch. I was curious in hearing more about it so I can help advise people about it.
If you under spend in one budget category, does the excess roll over into the next month?
s
Yeah, over all very intuitive experience.
You can choose to set a rollover for any categeory with one checkbox
also has useful custom rules for auto categorizing things that the algo can’t handle
m
Yeah if it has rollover than it's definitely a valid budgeting tool. That sounds like I now have two real options I can recommend since I can't recommend mint or every dollar really. I'll have to look more into it!
s
(being in software dev, I also like the ‘suggest/vote on a feature’ and public facing development roadmap 😉 but that’s a side benefit)
m
Oh no way that is a massive plus. I just sent a complaint email to right capital for not having a public roadmap and vote on a feature
I was going to send that feedback to YNAB soon lol
s
🎯
m
Okay you have me excited.
t
What’s it cost for monarch?
c
$15/mo or $100 annually ($8.33/mo)
w
I see they have Apple card support something YNAB doesn’t have
s
As a user, I can get you a 30 day trial as opposed to the regular 7 day. DM me if interested.
t
YNAB does a 34 day free trail. I’ve always wondered why the extra 4 days?
a
They have succeeded in getting your attention. 😉

Another nice Monarch feature is that when you are setting a budget for each category, there is a popup that shows how much you spent the last few months to give you a benchmark
