First rant: Now when I have a rant, how do I decide whether to post it here or on FrumDevs??

Okay, fair enough 
Although many of my rants aren't so specific

I figure now that most people have already finished fighting their schools about tuition, it’s a good time to create this channel :lolsob:

from someone who I am helping:

They have not issued a new cheque yet as they had to cancel a cheque they sent previously, although they told me last week that a cheque has been sent out to me. All sort of excuses. I told them it looks to me that they don't have the money. I also told them I have big bills to pay and I have to borrow money from friends.

I guess depending on the size of the check, 100 might be very fair though

the check is closer to 5000
and he thinks that he can get 500 compensation if he complains to the regulator

The money finally arrived in the person's bank account, together with a raised offer of £250 compensation for the poor customer service, which he accepted!
If you feel wronged, always complain.

when people say "invested in" but what they they really mean is "splurged on"

depends. Some purchases save you expenses elsewhere. Investing in silverware saves you on disposables, investing in a winter coat saves you on health expenses, investing in a bike saves you transport costs

yeah but "investing in" luxury silverware / winter coats / bikes won't save you any more than the less luxury kind will. (And I specifically used the word "luxury" because yes there are better quality items that will last longer, but luxury is not an investment)

^^ this. My Amazing Savings silverware is saving me just as much money on plastic as a fancy actual silver set

yeah I had a lot of can opener tzaros until I went with the (still walmart brand but) more expensive one

Capital switched their card network to discover and now my card doesn’t work anywhere, I was stuck in the grocery yesterday after a long flight with no working card, enshittification at it’s best

I know for sure that diners club isn't accepted in many Israeli stores.

I had noticed a discrepancy between an explanation of benefits statement from our health savings plan provider and the actual amount charged to our credit card on the day of the service. 

Actual services used were cheaper than the expected cost by a few hundred $. No problem. 

But I am only being issued a refund after calling about this a few months later. 
Why wasn’t it done automatically?

Is it common practice for a medical office to delay/ignore unnoticed credits to the customer unless they actively request a refund?

That is a very nice catch! How'd you notice it? do you always check?

Bh haven’t needed paid medical services too much so I don’t have much of a pattern 

I always review my EOBs from my insurance.

I keep a spreadsheet of Provider, Date of Service, EOB Patient Responsibility, Date Charged to CC, Date Submitted to FSA/HSA

I've had this a couple times as well and had to call and ask for a refund each time

You also can’t rely on your provider’s billing office to know your copay/coinsurance/deductible etc.  You have to clear that yourself with insurance.  I like to get the provider NPI, what CPT codes they will bill, and confirm coverage with my insurance.

I try to pay by CC so I can prove I submitted a payment.

Large medical providers usually issue credits or refunds are automatically, but it’s not always easy to catch it if it was applied to another date of service.

For smaller offices where people handle it manually, they probably won’t issue or say anything.

Refunds from medical offices are a pain in the neck, and they know it. Every time they want to bill an estimated amount, I explain that I'm happy to, but I know if I overpay, getting the refund will be a pain for everyone - I get those knowing smiles. Then they allow it to just be billed (usually)

I think this rant can be titled “NYC” because the place is a madhouse…

I think the NYC/NJ area is done being the center of finance/tech/etc.  The people that made these areas great are leaving south.

I don’t want to bring up politics so I’ll generalize the statement.  There was one thread where they were saying they voted for him because they were sick of politicians supporting foreign country A because NYC politicians should focus on NYC issues.  Instead, he turned around and showed support to country B.

There are also threads in r/nyc where people were upset about tax payer funded legal assistance for migrants.

I’m seeing these threads end up with lots of deleted comments, or deleted entirely.
