Our 2011 minivan recently got totaled (yes - they already had cars back in 2011 😄 ). I haven't bought a car in a bunch of years and am wondering how the experience has changed: 1. The insurance is giving us around 10K for the minivan, but we will probably have to finance the rest - are the credit unions still the best places to do that? 2. If I am putting down roughly 1/3 of the amount, does my credit score matter? 3. What is the current average auto rate? 4. We live in Baltimore - is Lakewood "the place" to buy cars now or is that just a rumor? 5. Does the year of the car matter or just the mileage? So, if there are 2 cars with the same mileage, but one is of a more recent year (and thus more expensive)...? 6. Any other questions I am not thinking of?

An emergency fund is only an emergency fund to someone who doesn’t have one. Once you have one, it’s for the unexpected, and there are almost never financial emergencies.

My husband commutes on the LIRR and subway daily. His old firm had commuter benefits but his current one doesn’t. Any ideas to minimize the impact? Maybe a travel credit card, etc.? Looked into sapphire reserve (I have preferred and freedom already) but wondering if it’s worth it. Any help appreciated!

I am in the late stages of interviewing with a frum tech company for a software dev role (3/4 years experience). This is the first time I went through the job search process since I my internship, which turned into my present role. What are some very important things to ask/look out for in evaluating a potential offer, what are some mid-level things, and what are some nice to haves?

Inspired by @millions-grass-2135 Why do you prepare—fear or faith? In Parshas Mikeitz, Pharaoh’s dream of fat and skinny cows standing together revealed a paradox—abundance and famine can coexist. Yosef’s genius wasn’t just in predicting cycles—it was in preparing for them. But his preparation wasn’t driven by fear—it was rooted in faith. He saw the years of plenty as gifts from God—not just for the present, but as provisions for the future. Saving grain wasn’t an act of doubt—it was an expression of trust that God provides the tools we need, when we need them. And when others’ stored grain rotted, Yosef’s remained intact—not because of better storage methods, but because his hishtadlus (effort) was infused with bitachon (faith). Skinny cows could eat fat cows and not get any fatter. Fear can eat faith and not get any easier. But, when the cows stand side by side, bitachon is born. This story flips how we often view preparation: • Preparing out of fear looks like, “I need to earn more money to survive.” • Preparing with faith looks like, “How does God want me to earn more money?” True bitachon doesn’t replace action—it guides it. Why do you think so many people associate bitachon with passivity?

Looking for resources for a job seeker. Located in Atlanta (open to relocation), bachelors degree, most of my experience is in paid search marketing (very open to a career change). Currently working part-time at a meat packing plant / distributor and while I’m incredibly grateful for the work, I’m unable to do more than pay the bills and minimums on our CC debt. What worked for you? Looking for any kind of guidance, whether on resumes, networking, how to search properly, etc.

Does leasing ever make more sense than financing if I can take the 10k down payment (for the finance) and put it into savings for the term of the lease and then use it to purchase or finance a bigger car (assuming my family will need it then)? Or is it better to finance a smaller car and if/when we need a bigger car, trade it in/sell it then?

Something’s been weighing on my mind lately. Gemara says that blessing rests upon that which is hidden from the eye. I also seem to remember reading in a sefer that by counting his grain stores (i.e. money) a person doesn’t allow Hashem to “slip in” extra unnoticed. Some people also bring up ayin hara. Obviously this at face value seems to contradict the concept of budgeting. To make it personal, when I look at the budget I’ve started in YNAB and think about all the expenses I haven’t added in yet, it seems like there’s no way al pi teva that we should even be afloat and yet, we always scraped by - sometimes with a little extra. Also, I started making some goals for expenses last night, the biggest being car maintenance costs. This morning my car acted up making me very late to the job I desperately need to keep - BH I limped it there eventually. All of this doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies. I’m already particularly “superstitious”. What am I missing? How can I reassure myself that I’m doing the right thing?

Hi everyone, I would love to share my react native iOS app for Shabbos Zmanim. It’s supposed to be straightforward, simple, and helpful (as opposed to the classic zmanim websites clouded with every zman possible) https://apps.apple.com/us/app/shabbat-zman/id6741112947 It’s also online at Shabbatzman.com and works internationally Would appreciate anyone who checks it out!

Does anyone have good tips on cheapest options for internet? We have had Xfinity for 2 years with equipment rental, although the free rental period is ending and I am looking into what to do next to keep costs down. I am exploring giving back the equipment and purchasing our own, although also re-thinking the best way to setup our internet. 1. We have hookups for both Fios and Xfinity 2. If there is any option of getting internet that only allows ethernet connection and no wifi, we would be happy with that as our primary need is because I work remotely (really, we would even prefer not to have wifi and limit internet use just to an office 😀) Would love to hear: 1. Experiences with Xfinity and Fios 2. Any other options that could meet our needs 3. If any ethernet only options exist that are cheaper

Not sure where this goes but I’m not leaving any avenue untapped. My mother, Malka bas Sarah, was admitted to the ER last week with a brain bleed caused by low platelets from chemo treatments. Things have declined and the only positive thing I can say is that she is pain free and stable for now. The doctors are performing final tests to see if there has been any activity. Now is the time to storm Shamayim for a massive neis. We need Torah, Tehillim, tefilos, tzedakah, and maasim tovim lzchus a refua sheleima for Malka bas Sarah. I would be very appreciative of anything you can commit to. There is a joint Tehillim going: https://tehilink.com/campaign/1745252717479x979891198610899000

I'm in the market for a Windows laptop for everyday home use, looking to spend up to $450. I've been using Macs for the past few years, so I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to Windows. Prefer to avoid Dell. Any recommendations?
