@kapa.ai what's
test_type
value in
elementary_test_results
table for Volume test? (Elementary volume anomalies tests)
k
Thinking completed Based on the knowledge sources, Elementary categorizes tests across types such as
dbt_test
and anomaly tests. For Elementary anomaly detection tests (like
volume_anomalies
), the general test classification/category is
anomaly_detection
(or
anomalies
/
dbt_test
depending on the reporting mapping), while specific distinctions such as volume are captured in the sub-type field (
test_sub_type
is typically
row_count
or
volume_anomalies
) [Github Issue (closed): Issue with freshness test display on Elementary dashboard; Github Issue (open): Dashboard click-through filter uses hidden "testCategory" column instead of "testSubType", returning empty Test Results]. However, the provided documentation does not explicitly list the exact literal string populated in the
test_type
column of
elementary_test_results
specifically for
elementary.volume_anomalies
. You can inspect the exact value stored for your test runs by querying your table directly:
SELECT DISTINCT test_type, test_sub_type FROM your_elementary_schema.elementary_test_results WHERE test_name LIKE '%volume_anomalies%';

I mean i can see in
elementary_test_results
test_type like anomaly_detection , dbt_test and schema_change so i just would like to know the proper value for volume anomaly. would be nice to get this answer. if not i will have to mock data to get the proper value which sucks
@kapa.ai can you give me all possible values of test_type?
k
Thinking completed The knowledge sources do not provide an exhaustive list of all possible values for
test_type
in the database tables, as it is an extensible field where new values can be added over time [Api Reference > Tests > Get a test > 200>]. However, based on the API and reference documentation, the explicitly mentioned values and categories include: •
"dbt_test"
•
"anomaly_detection"
•
"schema_change"
•
"source_freshness"
•
"elementary_cloud"
(Source: [Api Reference > Tests > Get a test > 200>]) In addition, open-source report issues and community discussions reference related type/category values such as
"generic"
,
"freshness"
, and
"anomalies"
[Github Issue (closed): Issue with freshness test display on Elementary dashboard; Github Issue (open): Dashboard click-through filter uses hidden "testCategory" column instead of "testSubType", returning empty Test Results]. To see all distinct values currently present in your environment, you can query your
elementary_test_results
table directly:
SELECT DISTINCT test_type  FROM your_elementary_schema.elementary_test_results;

Thinking completed For the
elementary.volume_anomalies
test, the
test_type
value in
elementary_test_results
is
anomaly_detection
[Api Reference > Tests > Get a test > 200>]. In Elementary's table schema: •
test_type
stores the high-level category (e.g.,
anomaly_detection
,
dbt_test
,
schema_change
) [Api Reference > Tests > Get a test > 200>]. •
test_sub_type
(or the test name/alias) stores the specific monitor type (such as
row_count
or
volume_anomalies
) to distinguish volume anomalies from freshness or column anomalies [Elementary's dedicated profile (top-level, same indentation); Github Issue (open): Dashboard click-through filter uses hidden "testCategory" column instead of "testSubType", returning empty Test Results]. 👍 0 button 👎 0 button ℹ️ Tip: Mention @elementary.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.
