@kapa.ai A test that triggered a warning yesterday was correctly routed via the Alert Rules I set to Slack, but when it evaluated again as a warning again today it was not routed to Slack. Is this expected?
k
Yes, this is expected behavior in Elementary. The most likely reason is the alert suppression interval. In Elementary Cloud, when you connect Slack, a default suppression interval is configured (24 hours by default), which means Elementary will not send another alert for the same issue within that window. So if the same test triggered a warning yesterday and again today (within 24 hours), the second alert would be suppressed. Additionally, even without a suppression interval, Elementary's core deduplication logic means that each alert is only sent once per issue per dbt invocation. Once an alert is marked as
sent
, subsequent
edr monitor
runs on the same results will skip it. [Alert rules] To resolve this, you can: 1. Adjust the suppression interval in your Slack connection settings — lower it (e.g., to 0 hours) if you want alerts sent on every new dbt run that detects the same warning. 2. Ensure a new dbt test invocation ran between yesterday and today — Elementary only considers alerts "new" if they come from a fresh dbt run/test invocation. The Alert Rules routing (filters + destinations) is working correctly — the suppression logic operates at a layer before routing and will prevent re-delivery regardless of your rule configuration. image 👍 0 button 👎 0 button ℹ️ Tip: Mention @elementary.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.

What is the default alert_suppression_interval?
@kapa.ai What is the default alert_suppression_interval
k
The default
alert_suppression_interval
is 0 hours (no suppression). > "The flag configuration is the suppression interval duration in hours, and the default is 0 hours (no alert suppression)." [Alerts CLI flags] However, note that in the Elementary Cloud Slack integration, the default suppression interval shown in the setup dialog is 24 hours, which would explain the behavior you observed in your previous question. How about alert_suppression_interval on email alerts?
@kapa.ai How about alert_suppression_interval on email alerts?
k
I'm sorry, but the knowledge sources provided do not contain enough information about how
alert_suppression_interval
applies specifically to email alerts in Elementary. What the knowledge sources do confirm is that
alert_suppression_interval
works for Slack alerts, both via: • The CLI flag
--suppression-interval
[Alerts CLI flags] • The dbt
meta
config on models/tests [Alerts distribution] For clarification on whether suppression intervals apply to email alerts, I'd recommend reaching out directly in the Elementary Slack community for a definitive answer. 👍 0 button 👎 0 button ℹ️ Tip: Mention @elementary.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.
