Hei! What env var disables anonymous usage tracking / posthog calls in
edr report
? We're running in an ECS container with no outbound internet access and getting connection errors + ~90s delays from posthog retry backoff.
k
There is no environment variable mentioned in the knowledge sources for disabling anonymous usage tracking. The supported method is a config file setting. Add the following to your
~/.edr/config.yml
(or a custom config file):
anonymous_usage_tracking: False
Then point
edr report
to it with the
--config-dir
flag:
edr report --config-dir /path/to/your/edr/config/dir
[CLI config docs] Important caveats for your ECS setup: 1. The fix for residual PostHog calls — there was a known bug where even with
anonymous_usage_tracking: False
, one call was still being made to PostHog. This was fixed in a subsequent release (see PR #2001). Make sure you're on a recent version of
elementary-data
. [Slack thread] 2. The ~90s delay is likely from
dbt deps
, not just PostHog —
edr report
also tries to download dbt packages from
hub.getdbt.com
on each run. In a no-internet ECS environment, you should pre-populate the internal dbt project's
dbt_packages
directory during your image build:
dbt deps --project-dir /usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/elementary/monitor/dbt_project
Run this during your Docker image build (on a machine with internet access) so the packages are bundled and
edr
won't attempt to reach out at runtime. [Slack: egress traffic] 3. PostHog/analytics failures should fail silently when there's no internet, but the retry backoff you're seeing suggests the bug mentioned above may be at play — upgrading
elementary-data
should resolve it. 👍 0 button 👎 0 button â„šī¸ Tip: Mention @elementary.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.
