Then install the connector for your data warehouse (run only the one you need):
pip install 'elementary-data[snowflake]'
pip install 'elementary-data[bigquery]'
pip install 'elementary-data[redshift]'
pip install 'elementary-data[databricks]'
pip install 'elementary-data[athena]'
pip install 'elementary-data[trino]'
pip install 'elementary-data[clickhouse]'
pip install 'elementary-data[duckdb]'
# Postgres doesn't require this step
Validate the installation with:
edr --help
[CLI install]
2. Viewing Lineage in Cursor However, lineage within Cursor IDE is not a feature of the Elementary CLI (OSS). That capability is part of the Elementary MCP Server, which is available as part of Elementary Cloud — not the CLI. [MCP overview]
The Elementary MCP Server exposes lineage (table + column-level, across dbt and BI tools) to MCP-compatible clients like Cursor. To set it up in Cursor:
1. Generate an access token at User → Personal Tokens in the Elementary UI.
2. Add the following JSON to Cursor's MCP config (Settings → Model Context Protocol → Add Custom Server, or edit ~/.cursor/mcp.json):
{
"mcpServers": {
"elementary-remote": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"mcp-remote@latest",
"https://prod.api.elementary-data.com/mcp/",
"--header",
"Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}"
],
"env": {
"AUTH_HEADER": "Bearer <AUTH_TOKEN>"
}
}
}
}
Replace <AUTH_TOKEN> with your generated token. [MCP setup guide]
> Note: Node.js 18 LTS or newer is required (node --version to check).
In summary, the CLI alone won't give you lineage in Cursor — you'll need Elementary Cloud and the MCP Server for that. 👍 0 button 👎 0 button ℹ️ Tip: Mention @elementary.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.
