Hey hey 👋 I get an error running the
edr report
command:
elementary.exceptions.exceptions.DbtCommandError: Failed to run dbt command.
In general it seems Elementary can’t find my
.dbt
folder - which is right there in the folder I’m running the command from. running
edr --version
gives:
Elementary version 0.16.1.
(test_dwh) andriesdraux@OTA-Andries-MBP-CMD6M datawarehouse %
running
dbt --version
gives:
(test_dwh) andriesdraux@OTA-Andries-MBP-CMD6M datawarehouse % dbt --version
Core:

  - latest: 1.9.3 - Update available!

Your version of dbt-core is out of date!

Plugins:
  - bigquery: 1.8.2 - Update available!

At least one plugin is out of date or incompatible with dbt-core.

running
ls -lah .dbt
gives :
drwxr-xr-x 5 andriesdraux staff 160B Mar 20 2024 .
drwxr-xr-x 53 andriesdraux staff 1.7K Mar 18 08:29 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 andriesdraux staff 41B Sep 30 2021 .user.yml
-rw-r--r-- 1 andriesdraux staff 1.5K Mar 20 2024 profiles.yml
-rw-r--r-- 1 andriesdraux staff 1.5K Mar 20 2024 profiles_backup_1710928419.yml
Even if I specifically try to give the path via the
--profiles-dir
argument it keeps going to my virtual environment so it seems:
2025-03-18 09:49:51 — INFO — Running dbt command --log-format json run-operation elementary.log_macro_results --args {"macro_name": "elementary_cli.get_test_results", "macro_args": {"days_back": 7, "invocations_per_test": 720, "disable_passed_test_metrics": false}} --project-dir /Users/andriesdraux/.pyenv/versions/3.10.3/envs/test_dwh/lib/python3.10/site-packages/elementary/monitor/dbt_project --profiles-dir /Users/andriesdraux/datawarehouse
I’m not sure if it’s correct it’s going to my virtual environment as
--project-dir
? Anyways, I’m a bit dazzled as to why it can’ t find my
.dbt
folder 😅 Any tips would be appreciated!

Hey @Andries Draux! Just so I understand the profiles dir is
/Users/andriesdraux/datawarehouse/.dbt/
?
a
that is correct
j
Because from what I see in your output you have
--profiles-dir /Users/andriesdraux/datawarehouse
Or did you try both?
a
aha indeed 🤦‍♂️ I thought it was looking for the
.dbt
folder. Running it with the
--profiles-dir .dbt
seems to work! Thanks for the swift help!
j
My pleasure 🙂 Happy it was solved
